Due Date Club February 2005:Please help...worried

Hi All,
I am from march 2005 board, and I am confused/worried. I hope u can help me as you all are much more experienced moms than me. I used to give formula to my daughter(5 weeks and 3 days - had to do this cause of some post natal complications), but now-a-days she does not relish it much and of course I am happy about it as she likes to be breast fed.

I am giving her BM - around 15-20 min each breast, sometimes she comes off even before that and I try to put back the nipple but she doesn't take it. Sometimes she goes off to deep sleep while being fed. I try to tickle her to wake her but just responds by showing some kind of irritation and again goes off to sleep.

I am worried if I am feeding her properly. If my milk is sufficient for her./? Earlier I knew that she takes formula(atleast the quantity)+ BM( of which I have no idea how much I produce as I am/was not BF exclusively), I used to feel content ....now since these days its happening only once in a blue moon..I am really worried about the quantity of milk she is taking.

Also when she sleeps, she happens to sleep for long hours. Earlier she used to get up every 3-4 hrs for feed but now-a-days I wake her up and feed, again that time she doesn't show much interest and its having just for the sake of having..Is it normal??But she does cry when she is hungry.

I am due an appointment with the doc only on the 17th. Please let me know -
1. If there is anything to worry about.
2. How do I know if my milk is sufficient for her.
3. Is her sleeping pattern ok for baby of her age.
4. Is there anything I can do to know how much milk I produce.
5. Is there anything I can do increase my milk supply - I am haivng methi water - other than this anything?? Any medicine u get in India for increasing milk supply, my MIL is coming so I can ask her to buy.

Please suggest. I am really very worried.

Thanks,
Vns(march 2005 board)

A baby should not sleep for more than 5 hours. If she does than you must wake up and feed her.

If she seems content and is growing well, that means she is getting enough milk. Another way to tell is if she poops once or twice a day and if her diapers are pretty wet when you change them.

Don't fret too much, for the first three months babies like to sleep. A baby will never starve herself, they cry and cry if they are hungry so if your seems sleepy and content then she seems to be ok.

Drink 3-4 glasses of milk, apple juice, to boost milk supply. Best of luck.
