My baby boy who is 7 months now having eczema , is there any home remedy for that , his legs looks like having reddish rashesh .. Can i apply pure vit E oil ?

Pls advice sheetal replied. please dont apply aquaphor. i tried it on my 9month old for eczema. after i applied,in minutes it got swollen,red and worst.i had to rush him to my dr the same day.

Eczema is a tricky thing since the reason could be among many - food, environment etc. As everyone suggested the first step is to see the doctor. If you need some temporary prevention before getting an appointment with the doctor try the following: 1) use only 100% soft cotton garments, towels, wipecloths. Sometimes the collars and edges around the neck will be synthetic and that can irritate the skin. 2) if in india use the soap \";oilatum\";. it is recommended even for very young infants and esp for those with eczema. if in US, use hypoallergenic dove soap without perfume or cetaphil which is soap free. 3) as soon as you give a bath, when the skin is moist use some aquaphor or eucerin. My ped swears by plain vaseline after a bath, she did not want me to use anything else 4) Using oil: That is dependent upon the type of eczema. For the type which my son had a particular type of oil spray was recommended. But for other types oil is not used. So better not to use the Vit E. oil until checked by doctor. 5) if you are in the US and this was winter I would have suggested keeping the heater at a slightly lower setting and bundling up the baby instead. I tried this upon my doc's suggestion and there was a big change. Yes, it is a pain to bundle up!

If this is environment related, don't worry at all. Once you get used to the preventive measures and using the right ointment for occasional flare-ups, it is very easy to manage.

But do see a doctor ASAP.

- Aarti Hetal replied. eczema is caused by many reasons,,it all dpends on how it looks & appears on the body and its location,,let your dr be the best judge to look at it and then give you medication,,until then its not advisable to apply nething..stop all oil massages or ne oil based ointments. console replied. Please contact a dermatoligist first.your pediatrition will refer one to you.iI have heard that ezchema is caused by food allergy.because my friends daughter has the same problem,she found out that she is allergic to wheat and wheat products,soy and soy products.so by avoiding that and some prescription ointment from doc.it is far better.so please take your baby to a dermatolgist first.
