Due Date Club January 2006:Baby Transverse....Archie pl comment

Hi Archie,
I had my OB appointment today and in the U/s it showed baby's head in my right side i.e in transverse position. I'm in 36th week and the doctor suggests me to go for external versioning on monday. I didn't expect this(my first delivery went fine)and not in a position to decide what to do when he asked me for confirm'. According to U/S baby's weight is 6pounds. I asked him whether we can wait for one more week and he said that there may not be space to turn the baby.
Archie, what do you think ?I have to decide & tell my doc by tomorrow. What are the risks in and after the procedure. He said that if something happens he will do c-section immediately. He said that fetal distress is a risk but it will be the risk even in normal delivery. What do you suggest us Archie ?? To go for it or not ? And if I go, what all the things I need to think about it? Is the success depends on doctor's efficiency ?? And how can I know how efficient is the doctor ?
Archie, we will be waiting for your response tomorrow before we talk to the doctor. Thanks in advance.

Sushma,
This pregnancy indeed is bothering you a lot.
There is little chance hencefort for baby to turn his/her head down as you are already 36 weeks. Which also means you would have to only hope that baby will turn head down and you would have a vaginal birth, otherwise you are subjected for C-section.

What your Dr. informed is more than I would comment on. There is a risk of fetal distress and turning head would be difficult if you wait longer due to size and space.

It's hard to tell if your Dr. is experienced but sure he does have a plan in case some emergency arises -a C-section.

This decision is critical and not only about baby getting head down but more than that experience of Dr., which I won't comment at all, that is not possible for me to comment on.

It is you and your spouse who should decide. If you both think he has been a great help and has handled this type of cases then you won't mind going ahead with his decision.

Yes, I know this is a point many OBs don't take risk unless they are confident of positive out put and or have an emergency plan. Many OBs just go for elected C-section in cases like yours. The fact your OB suggests for turning head down and have C-section plan just in case, sounds he is taking good care of and is confident. But again as said before I do not what to suggest in this.

All I can say, is this is short time procedure, would take as long as 15 minutes, you may feel a little discomfort as baby would be turn without his/her own movements. After procedure you might have to keep eye on bleeding and of course a close monitor for fetal movements.

Or else if you are not confident to go for it then have a scheduled C-section in 39th week or so. And who knows your littleone might turn head down on his own, although slim chances.
Archie

Have any of you pierced your baby´ s ears?
Have any of you pierced your baby' s ears? Where did you get it done? Were you able to change the earrings after the piercing and put on indian ear rings? My pediatrician does not do it, and she suggested that i take tanvi to the mall. Pls share your experiences at the mall if you' ve had any.

Ear piercing
My daughter was 5 months old when we decided to get her ear pierced. The non medical ear piercing options are painful and unsafe with possibilities of hepatitis, viruses and even HIV and I can never recommend it. My husband and I were looking for a safe, modern, gun shot piercing option which is completely safe, pain-free and with a traditional touch as well.
