Weight Concerns:Not gaining weight
2009-04-17
Name: Mary Paul

My son is 34 months old and weighs only 9.5kg. He meets all his milestones , active and is normal. But he did not gain any weight from 24 months to 34 months. He was always underweight, but atleast he used to gained some weight. But lately he is not gaining at all. Is there anybody with the same situation. Please advice.

Hi Mary,
i have a 32-month old daughter who weighs just 10.4kg. Just as u mentioned, my daughter has alwayz been underweight since her birth. She is otherwise a very active, cheerful n bright child. i too keep worrying for her weight all the time n try to give her nutritious feed. We live in Sharjah n r in India for a month. Change of water n climate has caused infection in her stomach. she therefore further lost 2 kgs. Though doctors usually say that she is fine n i just need to give her regular multivitamin n iron tonics apart from her diet.but i find it very difficult to make her take these tonics. though she feels hungry but her diet quantity is very less n moreover she just hates milk which is very essential for growing kids.

We can try few things to make our kids gain weight in proportion to their ages. Try n make your son take atleast one banana per day. If he likes milk then u can make him drink milk whichever flavour he likes.try to add ghee in rice n dal or khichdi or sabji etc. u can try fresh fruit juices, all seasonal fruits.if he likes whole fruit then nothing like that as whole fruit is much nutritious than juice alone. it contains fibre.u can also include paneer n meat, egg etc. in his diet if u r a non-veggie.

i am trying these things on my daughter n i hope she gains weight gradually. She is getting ready to join preschool in August ' 09 n i feel she should be fit enough to enjoy her school life.
if you have any suggestions or advice please do let me know.

Our weight loss story
We were killing ourself with food, and we both were suffering from diabetes. After the surgery we are two whole new people. We act, walk and talk differently. We are finally feeling the way we were meant to feel. We are able to walk, dance, work and do other things without needing to sit down every few minutes. Weight loss surgery is not a diet…. it is a whole new life! ... - Meghana Prabhu [View Message]

Hi dear the best way is to make your child do exercise and by doing this he will get hungry and will start having food and at the same time you can also start giving food which are rich in protein and fibre so that he filled with all those food and don't forget to give him a glass of milk with pediasure..
