I have a 6 mo old son. He gets up 2-3 times in the night for feeding. The worst part is in the early morning after 6-7 he gets up after almost every hr till he is fully awake by 9-10 am. Is this ok???
Here is his feeding schedules. I started solids for him when he was 5 mo old on doc's recomm.
Morning 9-10 am he gets up
10.30-11.30 (after massage n bath) Bf + 3 oz formula
he takes a nap of abt 2 -2.5 hrs
Then arpund 2-3 pm he takes lunch which is 4-5 tbsp of cereal with veggies or fruits.
5.30- 6 pm - 3 oz formula + bf (recently started adding either ragi or rice pudding or sweet potato halwa)
then 8.30- 9 pm - dinner 4-5 tbsp cereal with veggies
Then around 10.30-11 pm he takes bf and sleeps.
Before starting solids he used to take a botlle feeding also but he stopped that and i asked my doc so he says since his weight gain is ok n w ecant measure how much he is taking from my feedings so it should be ok...
My yet to start on juices n water..
Please suggest if his diet needs some changes.

Pinky, ask hetal about this. Hunger has nothing to do with sleeping. there are many other reason why baby wakesup.
the diet chart link that trinity has posted will surely help you that i can guarantee.
the other thing from my exp i want to share is when you feed your baby full bottle before sleeping, i was told by hetal to have a decent gap between solids and formula of somewhere around 2-3hours. so that baby does not feel heavy or does not have gas at night. this will also avoid your baby from becoming obese.it helped me for some week and i could see a good weight gain within weeks. but again he started waking up.
the other reason my baby was waking up even after a full diet was separation anxiety.keeping your breastpad or your clothes just above his head and it might make him sleep better.i was told just the same sentence and i followed it. believe me, my baby slept as if he sold horses !
you take care.
trinity replied. I m not an expert but hv a 6m baby and hv been following sugg from this site, has helped a lot and touchwood, baby is doing fine.
Also, to get a clear idea on how baby is doing, pls post baby's birthwt and current wt.
A 6m old baby's primary food shd be milk, be it bf or formula.
U can give him 2-3 feeds of semisolids but all others shd be milk. As i said, m not an expert but from my exp and readings, i m seeing following probs in the diet u posted
- baby is taking 2 proper feeds of milk only
- avoid potato or sweet potato at this time because their are more nutrituos and less gaseous substitues. Like veg soup, daal, oatmeal. Ragi is 1 good thing u r doing.
- baby is getting up 2-3 times at nights because of hunger/wet/gas so u can check these. Also, i found My baby used sleep well cuddled with me but if i make her sleep in her crib though attached to bed, she wd wake up and then wake me up pulling me sleeves! I gradually changed her habit by putting pillows around her with my clothes on it (yes, babies know ur smell v well).
My baby also used to wake up 2-3 times at night and fall asleep after little BF sucking. I felt my last BF around 9-10 pm must not be sufficient so i tried bottle one night. Baby slept all night and woke up at 530 am.
I still give baby BF around 9-30 pm but make sure i hv enough milk so that baby is full. She now sleeps all night. So u can check that.
I also use diaper at night so even if she passes susu she doesnt wake up.
At 5 30 i hv good milk again, she takes it and sleeps till 7-730.
For ur baby's early morning prob, I think ur baby gets hungry early morning but is sleepy too so does like that. Why dont u try giving him one full feed of breastmilk/bottle whatever first time when he wakes up in morning?
Here is a link that can guide u to 6m old's diet.

Also, FYI, i m putting my baby's daily diet
5:30 am - BF
7 30-8 am - 6-7 ounce formula by bottle
plays till 9 am or so then sleeps till 10 30
Lunch (daal/khichdi/rice with veggies- i hv created a weekly timetable) 4-5 ounce
plays .... then massage and bath around 12 noon... after bath she is sleepy so sucks BF a little, sleeps. Wakes hungry. I give either bottle or juice/soup/oatmeal/apple pie/cerelac baby cereal
sleeps again till 5 pm
if she hs had semisolid in noon, i give her bottle (i m working, maid gives her formula) - 6/7/8 ounce (she is crazy sometimes she takes 4 oz sometimes 9 oz!, if a bottle is empty once she wont take it refilled no matter what. anyways.)
Around 8 pm - dinner - similar to urs .. daal/khichdi/types, whatever was not given early
I hv also started finger foods. M in india - i give her biscuits, piece of chapati, piece of banana/fruit/such a salad veg.
At nights if baby is awake, or on holidays, i try to gv as much BF, though my supply has reduced now as i hv long working hours.
hope this helps u, tho little

if you copy from someone post you don't have that much respect for that person that you mention that name !
i told that everything is copied only because the reply you wrote was from my post so i could read the same sentences.
you are not the moderator of this site that you have to decide about everyone query being answered or not.
if you are not professional, don't try to be one by pasting someone else original post in your words.i didn't talk about ego, it seems that you are having ego problem.
i just feel sorry for people like you who try to help being a disguise angel.it is so sad to see that people like you who pretend to respect someone is not at all bothering about whose original post it was and atleast out of respect mention the name of that person.
it is clearly seen what your intentions are.
Fyi, i have also answered the query based on my exp and the inputs i got from other members.i was talking about you and not hetal.please note that.

kindly read my post again
it says
" m not an expert but from my exp and readings"
and readings = postings on this site.
and the fact that " i m not an expert" is written more than once ... so clearly, i dont hv any intentions to show i m great!
So also, Hetal herself encourages helping out other moms and i dont think she will mind even if i write same things as she has said earlier. This shd lessen burden on her and she wd be able to attend new, unanswered queries sooner.
'Someone's query is answered in right way or not', should be our lookout and not an ego problem of who has copied what and from where.
The information she has given is for sharing and spreading, to help out more n more mothers.
It wd be good if people like you spend the 2 mins that u used to write for me, in rather answering someone's query, nevermind if u copy-paste the data.
Anyways.
God bless you.

Thank you for ur sugggestions.
His birth weight was 6 lbs 13 oz
His 6 mo weight was 15 lbs 6 oz.
We are in US n i use disposable diapers all day so i guess this wetness prob shuldnt be there. And he sleeps with me on bed.
And as u told that he might be sleepy n not feeding full that might be the case. I will check on that to make sure that he feeds himself full.
Also, as i wtote earlier that he used to take a bottle before bed at night but stopped after intoducing solids but i guess will have to try again to see if it works.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
