I am nearly 6 weeks pregnant and since yesterday i am having fever (99.1 - 99.8) and severe headache. Are these symptoms common? I am very worried and scared as i compared these to the symptoms of rubella which has a very -ve effect on the baby. Plz help. its a weekend and i cannot visit my doc too......

poppins,
do not take medications before consulting your OB.
your fever is not high. it might have to do with timing of measurement and due to metabolic rates which are increased and fair on the gestation ground.

I don't see it as a rubella infection and if you have one then you will speak with your Dr. paracetamol can't cure rubella infection.

remember you are pregnant and don't want to take steps on your own.

Archie

Dont worry , you will be fine , the body's immune system is alittle down when we conceive making us more prone to fever, cold,etc...
As friend said, contact an urgent care if this is bugging you too muc...

As far as MMR goes ... they genrally do a immunity test for this duting the first prenatal visit..so you would know if you ahve immunity or not ..

and the percentage of people getting Rubella is very less in US ..with all the immunization..so dont worry you will be fine ...
i had a similar experience in my 7th week ..where i got rashes..i freaked out ...and this was also during the weekend ... i consulted two doctors during the weekend and they told me it is just hives and gave me more details abt rubella ..!!

ok..take care,
-P

Hello,
Thanks for your valuable inputs. Just wanted to update that my fever has gone but the reason for worry was that i was not in the US but in Germany ..the place from where rubella comes. I had an examination done by my doctor yesterday and hope everything will be fine. Since i had a little brownish discharge, she has administered progesterone tabs for 2 weeks and then the next appointment. Well, as my mom told i was not given any rubella vaccination as a child, i am a bit worried. Wherever i see people with red rashes, i feel scared ....trying not to move around much and stay home most of the time. My ultrasound shows that my EDT is 2nd Jan but according to the doc its 31st Dec.

I am a silent reader of this board. You addressed this to someone else. But i felt bad you are facing this in weekend. Even I have got fever at very early stage (5 weeks) of my last pregnancy. Since fever was less than 100 i took rest for two days and did not take any medicines. Just drank plenty of fluids. Nothing serious happened (knock wood).

Are you in US? They have something called \";urgent care\"; centers. It is between your regular doctor and ER. Maybe your insurance has that option. You can go there and get it checked if you are too worried. It is hard not to worry when pregnant.

It could just be a fever without being rubella. Have you ever got MMR shot? If so, you have got immunity to rubella. If you think you are not immune then talk to your OB. They can run a test for rubella in your first appointment.

Get weel soon, Friend

Thank You Friend. I hope its just a normal fever. I do not know if i ever got a MMR shot. I am not in US so things r different here. I will have to go to a hospital in my case. I am taking paracetamol to bring my fever down. I hope that does not effect my baby but i soon want to visit my doctor. Ur reply really made me go strong. thanks again
