Breastfeeding:Hi Hetal, How to increase quality of BM

Hi Hetal,
In one of your messages, you mentioned that, the quality and quantity of BM changes from person to person. Is there any way to improve the quality of BM?
My son was born 8.2lbs. He had big chubby cheeks. Now he is 2 and half months old and lost all his chubbiness. He drinks fine, his diaper count is fine. But he looks very skinny. He sleeps well, almost 18 to 20 hours.
I am a vegetarian. May be the quality of my milk is not good. If that is so, how can I improve the quality of my milk?

Hetal replied. hi there,,
try these options,,see if helps you to re-establish your milk supply :::
after all these trials,,its upto your body to produce enough and there is no guarantee of increasing quality or quantity..
mostly babies until 3months of thr lives get good milk supply, or hindmilk from mother and after 3-4months, mothers milk is more of skimmed milk that is foremilk and very few mothers are able to end breastfeeding along with feed of hindmilk that comes in last couple sprays from the breast,,,that fat is the one that actually makes babies chubby and thn its babies own genetic body makeup gifted by parents..many babies were skiny right from birth and didnt have good cheeks because no one thr family had ! and many had good cheecks with formula as well !
so thats not a thing to worry about.
also read my post to sania and sowdha and you will know all factors responsible for quality and quantity of BM and not just diet !its hard for not only vegetarian mothers and non-veg mothers to eat everything that is required to eat during lactation period..so thinking that quality of milk is not good when it comes to vegetarian diet,,is something that is just a mindset..change it..
if it makes you feel better,m pure vegetarian, in my first pregnancy i was not given a single prenatal,or ne iron tablets,,i delivered 8.1lbs baby,,and was able to breastfeed my baby upto 10months and she was exclusively bf until 7.5months,,i started solids late ! and not to mention, considerng that i was planning 2nd pregnancy,,which was when my baby was 10months old, i was allowed to express and offer bm until first 3months of pregnancy,,with monthly checkups and yes, this time also i am not given ne supplements or iron tablets !!! so inshort, my baby was drinking bm even when she was startd with cows milk....
so thats a pure case of vegetarian diet...
so if i were you, i will find vegetarian options,,there are lots of ideas in above links,,and mostly all vegetarian ideas..
include all kinds of vegetables, fruits, flours and appropriate dairy and proteins in your diet and you will not need non-veg diet at all !
eat oats, tofu, whole/multigrain breads, pastas, whole grain/multigrain flours,,mix them with your daily chappati flour,,add in mixed vegie to your rice items..eat everyday one serving of lentil or sprouts,,restrict but do eat dairy items like cheese, milk, yogurt(eat more than other byproducts),ghee to rice, sourcreme instead of butter to your bread,,it will be healthy alternatives as well you wont put on fat ! eat lots of fibr like spinach, apples, banana, greens, in form of one salad serving,,if you are staying in US, readymade salad packs are avilable,,add in some onions to it and you have a good salad with your diet,,
avoid frying and include lots of foods that requires pressure cooking, oven, roasting or grilling or saute...eat dryfruits for brunch,,a handful goes a long way.
so good luck and take care,,its not what you eat that matters,,wat matters is how you make it/cook it and upto what level your body was able to get optimum benefits from all you had in your diet..and yes it dpends on your overall health and lifestyle also,,not just your body being able to produce milk or convert nutrients,,or even diet...
and the best thing that works is your willingness to believe in what you eat !

RE:Adult breast feeding
I was not breastfeed in my childhood hence the idea of sucking and feeding from a woman's full, engorged breasts has infatuated me. It is a fantasy that drives me wild like nothing else, just the thought of laying my head in a woman's lap while she brings her swollen nipples to my mouth.
