Due Date Club November 2003:U/S Scheduled??

Hey everybody...

Does anybody have an ultrasound scheduled for the third trimester? If so, what weeke is your DR. planning on doing it? (Or do you have to go to a perinatologist for it?)

Priya, Has your Doc already scheduled the fetal stress/distress tests for every week? Any other regular tests they want you to go through? I have my Doc appointment tomorrow, but she's kind of given me a heads up that there may be a bunch of tests that need to be done weekly here onwards.

Let me know.

Thanks!

I am scheduled for an ultrasound next Tuesday. I will be 28 weeks and 2 days then. Mine is going to be done because the 18 week scan revealed a choroid plexus cyst. THese cysts apparently resolve themselves by the 26th week or so and a probably a normal part of the baby's development. I'm hoping it has resolved. Anyway, this is a bonus ultrasound and I'm glad I'm having it as I am a worry wart and want to know that all is well with baby.

Enjoy seeing the baby in the U/S and keep us updated.

Hi girls. My doc don't do ultrasound without reason neither, so let's hope there is no cause of concern for any of us.
My doc hasn't mentioned fetal stress test, pls guide me what it is? I will ask my doc next week accordingly. Thx.
Take care.

Hey Simmi, the link to the article posted by Vindhya gives a good idea of what a stress test is..

As far as I know, from what Radhika and Vindhya have said, they are done if one was diagnosed with GD or if at risk for High BP or if there is something wrong with the placenta (such as low lying or inadequate in general to provide for the baby)..

I will bring it up with my doc when I see her next and keep you updated..you do the same...

Subject:  No U/S for me

Hi Radhika,

You all are so lucky to have an U/S, my doctor doesn't recommend one unless there is a problem. I've tried to convince her by saying that I am not showing much, may be something is wrong, how about seeing in what position the baby is, etc., etc. For these questions, she said that my fundal height was fine, regarding position of the baby, she said she could tell just my feeling my tummy. Too bad, I am so disappointed. So, I am planning to go for a 3D U/S next month to find if everything is OK.

Regarding stress test, they will do it every week after I enter my 28th or 32nd. I don't remember when. These tests too, she said she was doing as I have a high level of hCG and is harmful to the baby and I can expect bad results even at a later stage in pregnancy. I am trying not to think about it too much.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Good luck with your U/S and other tests.

Vindhya

Hey Vindhya, thank you so very much for all the information...it is very nice/sweet of you to share with us..

I am so glad to know that there is a 3D center nearby and the price is pretty reasonable too...(some centers -in Sacramento were charging close to 500 bucks)..I think it will be worth going for it. I will surely give them a call...Thanks again....I am so excited about it now.

I did read the article you mentioned and it made me think about whether it was refering to cases of low lying placenta or every pregnancy in general. I will bring it up with my doctor cause she did not give me any details about the status of my placenta after the levelII US....

HCG levels do require the need to perform stress tests, from what I've read. Good luck with them...you will get to keep track of how your baby is doing, so dont worry too much...I am sure everything will be just fine...

Thanks again for the info..I really appreciate it.

Subject:  Various reasons for stress/non-stress tests

Hi Avi,

There's an imaging center in Pleasanton, that's where I am going. They have different packages for various prices.

The address is:
148 Ray Street, Suite G
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Phone: 925-600-8985
Toll free: 888-3D Baby Vu (888-332-2298)
Fax: 925-600-8997

Ask them to fax the details. I am planning to take the gold package for 175$. They give a 10 minute video or one CD-ROM, four 3x4 BW photos, one 8x10 Sepia Toned photograph.

Do let me know what you think.

Regarding stress tests, my doctor said that they are usually performed if the person is at risk for high blood pressure. Having high level of hCG indirectly affects the heart rate and the blood pressure as well. Thats why I am having it.

I did go through some web-sites for more information on this, they all give different reasons. For example., the following web-site says that it is performed to check if the placenta works well to support the baby or not. Anyway, check it out:
http*//patienteducation*upmc*com/Pdf/PregnancyNonStress.pdf

Please check with your doctor, they know it better. If you haven't been ordered these tests, feel lucky that everything is fine.

Hey Vindhya, I wish they would perform an U/S more often too but there must a reason for them to not want to do it often (since it doesn't cost them much to perform an ultrasound)....so like RAdikha said, it must be for the better....
Moreover, you will be going for the 3D ultrasound, so that's even better....I checked to see if there were any imaging centers nearby to us, but didn't find any..do let me know if you if have found one...

I thought these stress tests were only related to GD, my doc didn't mention anything about stress tests....do all of us have to go through it or is it related to your Hcg levels??????

Good luck with everything, I am sure it must be stressful for you but you are doing a good thing by not thinking about it too much....
