Due Date Club December 2005:Archie and All - Pl advise

Hi,

I am 24 weeks and 4 days pregnant. During my 20 weeks scan they found out that I have low lying placenta (it was marginal placenta previa during the 14 weeks scan). About two weeks back I had slight spotting. There was a clot in the vagina which my doc removed and she asked me to get a scan done. We went for the scan today...the finding was that i have \";low lying placenta with marginal hematoma above the internal OS\";. I spoke to my doctor after i got the report and she has asked me to take complete bed rest. She wants me to get another scan done after two weeks.

Archie, I hope this is not anything serious. Please let me know more about this condition-causes, effects, precautions etc. Eagerly awaiting your reply

Hi Greeshma,
Please take care of yourself. Please take complete bed rest and enjoy the time with your little one. As Sushmita said you can start speaking with your kid and sing a song for it. Let me tell you that it does responds to your voice.
Even I am in much similar case as you are in. But my Gync has told me there is no need for a complete bed rest now. So I am moving around and working little. Also I do rest if id feel tired.
So once again telling you the same... Take good rest.

Hi Greeshma,
don't be upset. Take rest as your doc told. Don't exaust your self. Be happy. May be at this resting time u can bond with your baby more like talking with him or singing. When the baby moves to your voice like he/she recognized u u'll forget everything.
Take care

Subject:  Low Lying Placenta

Dear Greeshma,
Let me tell you first thing that you should be stress free because your Dr. is doing excellent justice to your condition, complete bed rest and following it up by ultrasound at each 2 weeks interval!

Your placenta usually moves upward and posterior in second trimester. Some experience it quite early in second trimester and most around or just before 18 weeks. However some of them experience delay in placenta moving upward-posterior position and remain either complete low lying, partial previa. Cases with full low lying or partial previa can experience spotting or intermitant bleeding in second and in third trimester. I know this sounds scary but given that placenta is not totally upward makes this happen. This can be aggrevated by mother to be under physical stress or emotional stress. There fore a total bed rest and relaxed environment is best remedy.

You placenta will move upward and you still have time. In case your placenta does not move upward until around week 34 then you will be worried. Because that will pose risk of placenta previa and early onset of labor, that's preterm-labor but one must keep calm before this stage even if placenta is not totally upward.

YOu will get to know placenta status in next ultrasound, please keep me updated with your visits.

I would recommend even after bed rest you should treat yourself like in first trimester and that should make all go fine for your case.

Will advise more if needed after week 34.

Archie

Dear Archie,

Thank you so much for the prompt reply and for addressing all my concerns. I really appreciate it. Will keep you updated on the findings of my further scans.

Ammy and Susmitha, Thanks for all the kind words and making me smile. I have not yet started talking and singing to my baby, but now i have all the time in the world to do so.

Ammy, please don't physically stress yourself since you too have low lying placenta. Take lots of rest. Complete bed rest is no fun, hope all of you are active till the delivery.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
