Hi,
congrats to all moms to be.
I had a question for those in india.
does ur doc do internal check up at each and every visit and do docs in india use the doppler to check baby' s heartbeat.
can a doc tell if baby is fine just by doing internal checkup each time.
appreciate if anyone expecting from india gives me these answers.
thanks,
rakhi

Hi Rakhi

Just tell ur friend that its not necessary to do the internal checkup always...normally, docs can feel the baby' s position and growth by placing their hands on our tummy.
Maybe she can try talking to her doc.

I am in my 23rd week I go for my checkups every 4 weeks. She checks the BP and weight and asks about any pain/ discomfort/regular motions and stuff like that..they usually feel the tummy to gauge the uterus size and growth and use a doppler to hear the heartbeat..depending on the week you are in she may change or introuduce new medicines (like iron, calcium etc)..thats about it..my doc has asked me to get a anamoly scan done by my 24/25 weeks..looking forward to it

Hi Roops,

By internal check up I meant pelvic exam not TVS, her doc does her pelvic exam and tells her that her baby is doing fine no heartbeat checkup.
is it common practise in india to have pelvic exam and each and every visit.

Rakhi.

Rakhi, do you mean Trans Vaginal Scan (TVS) when you say internal checkup..my doc did TVS to me twice..once when i was 6 weeks and she had to do it again after 10 days as the growth was not very visible during the 6th week scan..after that its been only an ultra sound..
well, about the heartbeat, we were able to see the flutters when i saw the scan in the 8th week..so, its pretty possible..it´ ll look like a peanut fluttering..LOL..

Hi Roops and Sowmya,
thanks for the quick reply.
I know from the message board that Roops is from India is Sowmya also from India too.
Well, I asked the question about internal check up at each visit is coz on eof my friend from India is expecting and she told me that the doc checks her internally at each visit to make sure baby is doing fine, no use of doppler or sonogram for heartbeat, doc had used sonogram only at 7 week(first appt) to check about preggy and told them that baby is doing fine and heartbeat is fine etc,
I was also wondering hwo can ther be a hearbeat at 7 weeks, surprising.
but my main question was that about internal checkups at each visits and how can doc say baby is fine just be doing pelvic exam and no doppler or sonogram to check heartbeat.

thanks girls for replying to my question.
I am from US so know that in US docs do not do internal checkup each visit but only first and then 35 weeks for bacterial swab and then to see if baby´ s head is engaged. was not sure about india and wanted to know how it goes in india.

thanks anyways.
Rakhi.

Hi Rakhi

Docs here dont do the internal checkup on every visit. My doc just examines my tummy, used the sonogram for the heartbeat. She examined my breasts once and that was it.

Hope this helps
Sowmya

Hi Somya,

thanks for replying back with an answer.
it is surprising that my friend´ s doc does internal check up at each and every visit, no sonogram to check heartbeat.
My friend feels that doc is doing correct and that by doing internal checkup the doc understands that baby is doing fine and that otherwise the doc would have done a songraphy to clear any doubts. this is her first pregnancy.
I really do not know how to explain to her that this kind of check up is not done each and everytime, and that how can doc tell that baby is doing fine without checking heartbeat and only by checking pelvic.
she thinks that in india this is how it is done.

any suggestions?

thanks again for replying.

Rakhi.
