Just had a baby 3 months ago he was born with bilateral club feet. He has had casts on since he was about 3 weeks old. The casts are up to his thighs. He just had surgery last week and I have to wait another 3 weeks to see if the surgery went well, so I can go and get him the shoes with the bar. It is very heart breaking to see my son going through this. But he is a STRONG baby, always lifting his legs and banging them down. I sometimes sit and think to myself, Did I do anything wrong for him to be born this way because no one in my family or his Dad's family have club feet.
Kinda replied. I am not Indian, but was lurking here and caught your message. My son Ian is almost 8 months old and was born with severe bilateral clubfeet. We are using the Ponseti method. I know it is hard, especially when you are still in the casting period, but your baby is going to do great. Ian's feet are fully corrected and he is wearing his shoes with bar. Our babies are very strong little guys, and yes, you will get quite a few bruises from him banging his bar down on you! LOL
You did nothing to cause this. It is such a common defect, and so easily fixable. In our case, clubfeet runs in the family, and yes, there is a very strong genetic influence. Occasionally I worry that I did something too, but I don't dwell on it. One day we will see our babies walk and run and play and we will cry for the joy we feel and the pride at what they've had to go through to get there. I encourage you to find support and info online, especially about the Ponseti method. If your son's feet do not seem to be going well, do NOT give in to major surgery on them without researching the options first. My son's were severe and by 6 months old they were fully fixed without surgery. Anyway, sorry this got so long!
