My daughter is going to be 4 months old. She is completely on formula except at night when I breastfeed her. Now my problem is that she generally takes only 2-3 oz formula at a time. Then she will be hungry again after 2 hrs or so...then again when i give,she will take 2-3 oz formula..but never more than 3 ozs. As I was going thro diff posts I understood that babies generally shd take 5-6 feeds of 4-5 oz in a day. Here I give almost 7-8 feeds. Even if I keep her hungry for 3 hrs and then try to give her 4-5 ozs she will still take only 3 oz of formula. Is it okay???
Now giving so many feeds is not a problem but then she does not sleep properly. She will sleep 1-2 hrs at a time... and will be feeling sleepy again after 1 1/2 hrs as her sleep was not completed. Only time she sleeps for 4 hrs is at night after which she will wake up for feed.

Swatts Hetal replied. atfirst, you cannt expect a 4mnth old to sleep properly thru out the night, unless otherwise, its your baby natural habit that she has developed from the eearly age !
since you are feeding bm at night/bf,,your bm seems to be not enough for her to feel contended and thus makes her hungry every 1-2hours...
at 4month, its too early for babies to be without bm or formula,,,rather try offering her bf or bm in daytime and offer formula at night,,,see if that makes her sleep and gives you some rest !
in your place if i were you, i will not worry waking up as frequently required when it comes to bm/bf,,until the age of 6-7months,,,because i understand that we are not superwoman who are able produce 100% fat needed for our babies in our bm and our bodies have limits and other things that we go thru,,,so considering that,,its pretty much obvious for babies to keep asking for bm often..howver, there are some babies whose moms were lucky to get a good sleep thru out the night without a single feed ! well,,its their own sleeping habit that they dvloped and its quite unexplained how it works !

after she is 6-7months, avoid night feeds which will surely cut down once your baby is on proper solid diet.
the other reasons COULD BE, not getting enough from formula and bm as to what her body needs,,,,so baby is giving signal that she is ready for solids,,most 4months olds onwards do that,,its common,,,and only way you can know that is, check on her weight!! if her weight seems to be dwindling with all your efforts and her intake capacities, and you are not able to feed her more of formula or bm because her intake is low per feed or ne other reason,,,,and thats her routine and capacity,,respectng that,,,and take it that your baby is ready for solids..whats is her birth weight, and current weight,,,
or you can check with your dr and ask him if you can go on with formula or bm until she is 6months or its high time for you to start solids ?????????

let your dr be the best person,,and show your preferences in starting solids abit later or say 5-6months,,if needed,,,ask him specifically if at all it will not harm your baby weight issues or your baby badly needs the solid feeds...he will answer you rightly !
rest all looks ok to me,,you cant expect your baby to complete feeds,as recmnded all the time or may be none of the times,,,,you have to understand that these recmndations are for positive growth and trying to achve 100%,,which is not always case with babies,,as apetite and prefrnces,differ from each baby,,dpnding on country,race,culture, baby own body build up,health and finally diet of the mother as wel !
so take care, eat healthy diet and remain stress free,,,njoy breastfeeding !!!without ne worries,,
