most INFANTS are good sleepers and they need to fed on time atleast until they are babies,,which is by 2-3months,,,by that time they will get into some sort of wavy schedule,,and its at that time you will have to decide whats best considering your baby weight,,,some drs have recommended mothers to wake up the baby and bf them, even at 4 months,,thats how,,most exclusive babies are allowed to night feed almost upto 6-7months...

if at all you are offering a formula feed at night before sleep,,it is not required by you to wake her at night and feed her,,formula is often heavy than breastfeeding and most babies have slept well,and doesnt seems to be hungry every 2-3hours,,and have slept sound without need of ne feeds after taking a good formula feed.

if ur new born is sleeping for 5 hrs, i wd say, feed her every 2 hrs. Mostly When u pick the baby and try to feed, the baby will take it by natural reflex - means, u dont need to wake up the baby.

if baby doesnt take, please consult your doc. Check the weight gain.

but do feed the baby every 2-3 hrs, even at night. 5 hrs is too long a duration!

when baby is around 2 mon, u can start feeding by demand at night so that u get sleep.

i am assuming urs was a normal full time delivery.
