WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH ME?
You probably are feeling your baby move frequently, which can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, your baby may not know the difference between day and night! Those wonderful little kicks may occur at any time -- even while you're trying to fall asleep. Your lower abdomen may ache due to the stretching of the ligaments supporting the uterus, and it may feel itchy. Your legs also may begin to cramp and your feet and ankles may swell. Your breasts will be larger, and you probably will need to buy larger bras. At this stage, some women begin to feel great. Some even compare it to feeling like they've received a \";second wind\"; or renewed energy. You may notice that your skin is darkening slightly on your abdomen or face. Emotionally, the excitement of being pregnant may have worn off, or you may be getting more excited as you prepare a nursery and shop for baby's supplies. Enjoy this time. You are now one step closer to the birth of your baby. You're two-thirds of the way there.
WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH MY BABY?
By the end of the sixth month, your baby is about nine inches long and weighs one and one-half pounds. Your baby now can suck on his thumb and will be moving around regularly. Even though the baby has no body fat yet and has wrinkled skin, it looks like a miniature version of the baby girl or boy she or he will be at birth.
JUST FOR YOU:
Of course, pregnancy aches can happen anytime during the nine months. But you may feel them a little more in these last few weeks. Changing the way you eat, or what you eat, may help you feel better.
To reduce indigestion, try eating five or six small meals throughout the day instead of three larger ones.
If you're feeling nauseated, you might find carbohydrates easy to digest. Try snacking on crackers, unbuttered popcorn or dry cereal.
To maintain regularity, increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Raw vegetables and dried fruits are healthy sources of fiber.
Baby kicks keeping you up? Some foods, like cheese and warm milk, may actually help you get to sleep.
