What are you all doing to counter the ' first trimester' blues - incessant vomiting, loss of appetite, nausea? What all tests did you have conducted the first time you were asked to, approximately 45 days into the pregnancy?

Alright, alright, if you all so insist. Pooh, as we all know is Winnie-the-pooh (signifying masculine gender, maybe?) and Tweety, you know what it stands for.

CJ, sorry to hear that you had not been keeping well. I have improved somehow, off-and-on. As for the almonds, I think its perfectly safe unless you are allergic to it.

Kirti, there does not seem to be any remedies for nausea, but just keep having something in regular intervals (every 2-3 hours). I have started having biscuits even before I leave my bed in the morning, followed by bread-jam or cereal within an hour. Have been carrying apples and grapes to my office, and make it a point to have them at regular intervals. Seems to be working for me!

Here' s another trivia for you?

Is this a fact or a myth: Avoid sleeping on your back, or always sleep on your right side.

Of course, its a myth: For normal, healthy pregnant women, any sleep position is safe for your baby. So, choose the one that is most comfortable for you :)

Keep posting and enjoy the experience!!!

Thought i should contribute to this chat as well :)

Kirti, i have a daughter too, she turned two in november, a bit bigger than yours :-). i know what you mean by you really feel bad to take her off, my daughter was not well last week , she was clinging to me, i did not have the heart to put her down :-(, when do you plan to tell your daughter ? we are planning to take ours to the 20th week u/s ..!

PoohTweety, nice trivia. let me add a fun trivia to it. I heard somewhere that eggplant is not good when you are pregnant, i googled on it. And found out that one of the dishes to induce labor - eggplant parmiginia (or so they claim ..!) it says it is the collection of herbs that do the magic, so now we know where to head if the little one has extended its stay too long in the tummy :D .. (atleast it is a good excue to eat Italian food ..! )

Hi All,
Sorry was not able to login for past couple of days. I was not feeling good at all and was having too much of weakness in my body. I really didn´ t throuw up but was feeling extremely nauseated all the time. Yesterday was horrible , i had to force myself to eat something..Neways how are you all doing?

I can see new member added to the list..welcome kirti..
Hopingfortejas, you are right about the eggplant. I found out 2-3 days back and googled too much on it and approach to eat eggplant was quite negative.
Kirti - I try to reduce the nausea by having ginger tea. I also keep crackers near my bed. Important is try not to drink liquid while eating.Eat first and then drink :) More suggestions from anyone are welcome.
One question - i heard that eating almonds too much is not good during pregnancy? Is it true/false?
Poohtweety - I am also asking you again..what does your name signify? I am glad your health is better now.

hopingfortejas - have already told my daughter, not sure if she gets it though. The only way she has reacted so far is - mumma want to give umma (as in kiss) to baby, and she kisses my tummy (and makes sure she pulls my shirt down immediately), very cute indeed. She also says mumma tummy baby, I hope she takes well to the second kid.

About food trivia: I consult at EVK in Chennai, they are pretty modern in approach. She asked me have ripe papayas, mangoes if I like them. They haven´ t even put me on any medication other than folic acid as I complained of nausea, she said I have to start my prenatal vitamins from 2nd trimester.

Hi Chits, PoohTweety (what does this name sigify btw), Joshi and HopingforTejas,

My second baby is due around Oct 1st. First one will be 2 years in 4 days. This time I am more tired and nauseated. Not really throwing up but just have loss of appetite. All I crave for/can eat is fruits and curd rice. I am averse to all my otherwise favourite food (cant stand onion, garlic capsicum, any spicy food to name a few, and hate oily fried food).

What worked really good for me was a snack before getting up from the bed early morning (biscuits, banana, cereal bar)and eating something every 2-3 hours. During weekdays at work, I am better off because I am more disciplined, at home cooking smell makes me sick, so don' t even step out of my room until all the food is cooked. And my daughter insists on siting on my tummy, I feel really bad to take her off. What I miss the most is carrying her on me for a long time.

Have been doing better this week, last week was terrible.

Please share your nausea remedies for a vegetarian!

About tests - the usual for Heamoglobin, USG for heartbeat on Feb 9th (was fine) and a new test this time to find out calcium and Vitamin D.

Good Luck to be moms,
Kirti

Hey C.Joshi, thank you! Health has been better since last week now that I am taking a medicine prescribed by my doc on the last visit.

Let´ s share any trivia and info that we may have come across, it will serve two purposes-first it will keep this forum active and we will soon reach the D day, secondly it will help us stay educated, just in case.

I start, as many have mentioned this:

Q: Why are Papayas and Pineapples forbidden during pregnancy?
A: Although a fully ripe papaya or a pineapple are not considered dangerous, when unripe they contain a latex substance that triggers uterine contractions and may cause a miscarriage.

Hey,

Thanks for your advice. I visited my doc today, but she preferred not to do the ultrasound today as I have gone weak, thanks to all the vomitting :( Have it scheduled first week of March, 7th week of ' our' pregnancy. Anyways, folic acid continues, and its safe to take the anti-vomit medicine. Look forward to keeping this forum active (I view it daily expecting responses, please).

Love,
Pooh-Tweety

Hey,

My first and this one so far have been realtively easy on me. I would say the best thing to do is listen to your body, eat whatever stays in your tummy. Don' t worry too much about nausea, vomiting affecting weight gain and baby' s growth in the first trimester. Take it easy.

My doctor did a blood test to confirm my pregnancy in 5 weeks. I have my 8th week visit on this thursday. my docotr does an ultrasound, but not all doctors do that. Also, what I remember from my first one, is that they did other blood tests for anemia, antibodies screening, etc. They also did sugar/protein monitoring in the urine.

Take care :)

Well in my case i am having acidity and sometimes loss of appetite due to the burning sensation in the stomach.
My doctor did the urine and blood test and i am having my first ultrasound on this thursday 19th Feb.
As i was having too much of acidity , i wasn' t able to feel good about myself, feeling sick all day.
Today morning , one of my friend suggested me a very good website for getting positive vibes and meditation. Its basically of all mantra' s and bhagwan dhun' s..
Here is the website : yogausa
Also, i am reading few articles of \" positive thinking during pregnancy\" It helps a lot when u are not feeling well.

Ladies,

I have my color doppler due next week, is it done for you all?

How will the list look like for items that we need to carry to the hospital? If I am asking my husband, he is fully ready with his camera and camcorder, but we do not quite have a clue for the MORE necessary items :).

Need help!
