can u pls tell me as my 7 month old child washaving a problem of rashes and when i applied on his faceit is completing vanishinhg.But i have to come to know that avenno has petrleum and it will not better for babies as it will make them dark?is it true?desi ghee can i apply insted of lotion and his color will be fair pls pls suggets i am quite worried about yhis.
Shelly Talla MD replied. Why on earth is a babies complexion so important to you indians? 1stly a persons complexion is what it is due to the pigmentation in your skin. Nothing you can do to change it. You can prevent getting darker by staying out of the sun. But as an infant its natural. It will change as they get older. For petes sake just love your child and stop worrying so dam much of his skin color. If he was red, yellow, blue, orange.. he is YOUR baby you should love him regardless of his color. Judging from some of the posts you have in this site, I wonder why God even let people like you be parents. Parenting classes should be mandatory for some people. Geez! Enjoy your baby and love it no matter what! forget the stupid things you cannot change!!!!!!!!!!! otherwise not. also, as and when babiees mature to toddler, their skin colour keeps changing,,until 1 or 1.5 year. no matterr what you do, after all good things,at the most you will be able to increase the texture or appearance of the skin or the radiancy associated with it and not the actual colour !!!!
so if you think, the rash creme is the cause of his or her skin darkening, then change it milder creme..
also, if you are so concerned, you can try what i told to priya in couple post b4.
but as i said it will not change the actual colour, but improve the texture or appearance of the skin ! thats all.

THe color and complexion of the baby depends on the parents color.If parents are wheatish the baby will turn out to be that color and if one of the parent is much fairer than the other chances are that baby can be much lighter color. In my case I have two boys, older one is darker than the younger one. My husband's family is typical indian color so he takes after them and my younger one is very fair takes after my mom's family and my color.
I did not apply anything special on them. Don't sweat by appplying zillions of different things. look at your and husbands color and that is the color your baby will be.
And please don't be so hung up on complexion of your baby.
It is sad that to this day Indians are so obsessed with complexions of their kids.
