In the passport application the # that is given wld that be the same future passport #.Can i use it to take an appt,bcos my mom's status says passport granted but time will be taken to despatch it!

My parents got their passports. Since they are eligible to do the drop-box, my brother stopped by at the local center and they said it would be just a matter of getting the sponsorship papers. I plan to send that over this week or next week.
With regards to your question, I think you need the passport number to get the appointment, the application number is separate.

Application number and passport number are not same. You will get to know the passport number only when you receive the passport. If they say \";passport granted but time will be taken to despatch it\";, it might reach your mom in a week or two weeks. This happened with my father-in-law's passport also.
Also you need to have passport number to book an interview or look for open slots in for the interview. You cannot use application number.
Yesterday, from Bhargavi's note it appears like there in no open slot before August.
I have my father's passport number but don't have email id which he has given at the time of booking for interview. We need that to see open slots. I will have to call him to find that out. Let's see if Bhargavi can help us in the mean time.
