Medication Effect on Foetus:ibuprofen in 7th week

Name: Rashmi

Hi

I just arrived in New Jersey on 23rd from Mumbai to be with my husband. The Ultra sound on 24th revealed that allwas well but on 24th night i developed high fever (102 F) and tylenol didnt help and on 25th the doctor on the phone prescibed Motrim which contains Ibuprofren (200 mg) 2 tablets every 6 hrs for 2 days. My fever has come down now. Does anyones have any idea of side effects if there are any on the foetus with this medication?

Thanks
Rashmi

Hi,
Tylenol(500 mg) every 4 hrs is adviced by doc with plenty of fluids/liquid intake like orange juice/more water n it helped me also.
I have no idea of effect of ibuprofen intake but usually not recommended by docs as per my knowledge.
I'm in 38thweek n Lastweek too had fever (102 F)with severe cough n cold.
Sometimes the temp doesn't come down due to dehydration also.
wear loose n thin clothes (i know its hard in winter but thick clothes rises the body temp).
hope this helps

takecare

Hi Rashmi,

Ibuprofen is not the list of acceptable medications during pregnancy that my doctor gave me. However if your doctor did prescribe Ibuprofen I guess he knew what he was doing...I am assuming you did inform him that you were pregnant. Acetaminophen - is considered a better choice during your pregnancy days. I dont know the exact reasons why but i do remember reading somewhere that ibuprofen is like a stomach irritant. If you ever come down with fever again - cause of the terrible winter weather - try to stick to Tylenol (Extra strength ) is fine too. Try taking a bath in tepid water that brings down your temperature. And my best advice will be to get yourself a good OB/GYN and consult him/her ASAP about the pregnancy - they will probably not call you in for a visit till you are in your 10th week. All the best Rashmi - you may want to check out some American sites on pregnancy too.
