Breastfeeding:Breastfeeding at night

Hi, My child is 15 months old. Breastmilk was his only food till he was 6 months old. I demand fed him as per my paediatritian's advice. Thereafter I started introducing solid foods and now he eats three meals and two snacks/fruits a day. He eats most of what we eat. I still continue to breastfeed him few times a day. He is of healthy weight and height and is of good health. He is particular about breast feeding before he goes to sleep in the night and also wakes up once or twice in the night for feeds. Now the problem is, my peadiatrician insists that I should stop breastfeeding him in night, especially when he wakes up from sleep. Otherwise, he would get addicted to the habit, he says. Its alright to feed him during the day (morning to night), he says. My feeling is that 15 months is still early to forcibly reject breastfeed, especially since I am a homemaker. I would just request those mothers with breastfeeing experice to clarify if I should take my paediatrician's advice seriously. If he doesn't self wean should I wait till he is around 2 years old to cut down night feeds, which is the most difficult to stop?

wat mentioned about babies getting habituated to bf is very much normal esp if bf is prolonged for more months after 1 year. babies get attached to mothers breast more forcibly than with bottles nipple and thus makes difficult for mom to stop bf immediately. after 1 years onwards, longer you continue bf, harder it becomes for you and your baby to leave it ! as your baby is understanding alot of things and soon he will also understand that he needs it no matter what.. right now still 15months old is better to manage than older kids when it comes to weaning. yeah, there have been lucky mom whose kids have left bf on their own, that starts from as early as 8months to 2 years..but after 1 year, babies dont need mothers milk. even if supply is very good, and it provides your baby all nutrients, your baby still needs a feed of cows milk..he is growing and maturing, and to prolong an acitivity that is not needed, is no good either !
so its upto you, and its totally your decision. if you are njoying bf and you want to continue, no problems at all..but then remember onething that weaning is going to hard for you in longer run and be prepared for it,,considering the worst...
as far as its not tiring for you to get up atmiddleof night and feed him and you are njoying, no problems at all..
goodluck

RE:Adult breast feeding
I was not breastfeed in my childhood hence the idea of sucking and feeding from a woman's full, engorged breasts has infatuated me. It is a fantasy that drives me wild like nothing else, just the thought of laying my head in a woman's lap while she brings her swollen nipples to my mouth. Ideally, I'd like to finally explore this with the right female. If you are in or near... - Sanjayhyd [View Message]
