Unexplained Infertility:IUI/IVF
2008-02-19
Name: Adi

Hi. We are married since last three and a half years and trying for a baby since last more than two years. However, despite no medical problem (all test of both of us are absolutely normal) my wife is not able to conceive. Even my wife has also undergone two cylcles of gonadotrophin- stinulated IUI locally but of no help. Can anybody suggest me a good infertility specialist in north India whom we could consult for IVF? Also pl. advise should we go for IVF right now or wait for some more time, based upon your experience. I am 31 and my wife is 30.
With love,
Adi

Adi, if you live in North India and its convenient to be treated in Delhi then Dr. Sohani Verma at Apollo is good. We had all the intial tests done with her but had to abandon the treatment with her a we are Bangalore based. Even if your tests and counts are all normal its possible that you won' t conceive naturally - which is why after all, it is called unexplained infertility. Apollo is expensive, but then again so is IVF treatment anywhere else. Let me know if you want Dr. Sohani Verma' s contact details. All the best.

Hi Adi
Unexplained Infertility is the worst case scenario in my view and some dr' s says the same. The reason behind this is that if we know the reason of infertility than we know the fix and can hope after the fix that it will work. But unexplained infertility is totally a bummer not knowing the reason and hence the end result. I was in same boat 12 yr. back and lost all my fertile age not knowing anything about infertility , going to normal dr' s, taking it easy (as all friends and relative says \" let nature take its own course\" ). By the time I decided to go for agressive options I was 35 yr. old. I went through 4 IVF' s with ICSI (since I had less no. of eggs (7-8)with failed result. AFter that I tried several IUI' s with injection as IVF' s was out of the option for me due to financial problem (It is way too expensive in this country) and there was no sucess. So finally I lost my battle in this journey. I never thought in my wildest dream that I will not be able to hold my baby in my arms.. But no one can change the destiny. Dr' s could not find even 1% problem in either one of us..
But as I said it depends person to person. I have some friends who have conceived at the age of 39/40 with IVF and had 17 eggs. Each person has different overian reserve.
My opinion is that you can take some break (6 month to 2 yr). It is not a bad idea and see if nature plays any role. Other wise I would suggest that go for IVF before she hits 35. Again this is just based upon my opinion and experience. It does not mean that people don' t have sucessfull IVF' s or pregnency after the age of 35. Let me know if u have any question.
good luck.

1) You need to always educate yourself about your health problem or a situation along with seeing a good specalist. This is very important since I lost my several precious years of fertile aga not knowing anything about it. Please find below some of useful link to know all about infertility

mayoclinic
webmd
advancedfertility
medicinenet
2) You need to select and go to a fertility specialist to have all checkups done (u can find detail in above links). A doctor decide a dedicated or customized treatment based upon your test results and cause of infertility so it varies in every one' s case. Usually all good doctor go one step at a time following a treatment path. So for ex: a) if all test results comes out normal (all tests) than they will go for plan (b) giving fertilty drug to your wife for 5 days a month for 6 month and doing IUI . IF that fails they go for plan (c) going with injectable fertility drug for your wife with IUI for 6 month and so on.. Last try they use IVF for 3 cycle and if you want more.
Your wife is 30 yr. old which is no worry in regards to her age. She still has lot of time if she does not have any fertility issue like High FSH , premature Overian failiur , POCS etc.
Film producer Farah Khan gave birth to triplets 2 week back at the age of 43.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any question to me.
best luck. semi

Thanks for your message and taking interest.
We have already progressed till the step B as told by you. I mentioned in my mail that:
1. All tests are absolutely normal: including sperm count, morphology and ASA.
2. All The tests of my wife including folliclular development and release, thyroid, FTs, blood repors, HCG, Antisperm antibodies etc. are also quite normal. (We have done almost all the tests for 2-3 times! in good labs)
3. The doctors we have consulted expressed helplessness after all these tries and called it " Unexplained Infertility" . Even some call it due to mental block and much thinking in a particular direction (i.e. always being in tension!), which is generally observed in highly educated people.
4. Keeping all these things in view, I want your valuable opinion on:
1. Should we take a rest and wait for a biological conception, or,
2. Should we keep on trying for IUI, or
3, Shd. we try IVF?
Thanks again.

IVF via Donor Sperm
Hi, we are planning for ivf via donor sperm as we have genetic history wherein my daughter is ASD and mine own brother is ADHD hence genetic counselor said there is risk of 15-20 percent of child being autistic if we use our own gamet. If male child is born the risk is higher than a girl child.

Hence we thought to go for donor sperm. But there is still... - SS [View Message]
