Neha,
1.pump - if its working for you, no need to change.continue with watever schedule of pumping you are following and yes healthy diet is a must.
2.about night feeds, yes what your dr recommended is for good. often night feeds becomes a habit for the babies esp when they pass 9th month,,right now its ok if you are not able to succeed. but try to stop it, before your baby gets used to it. pump at that time so that your supply continue !
also, note that one of the reasons that your dr might have adviced to cut off night feeds is that baby at 6months onwards dont need night feeds, unless otherwise that baby is not getting enough from whole days feeds.
secondly, your baby might be teething, in that case, its not advisable for baby to have ne fluids except water at nights,,reason is to prevent tooth decay !
now please note that this doesnt mean that at 6months exact, it is supposed to stop & that you have to run hard and fast for it.,,its is accepted by everyone that until 7months end or so, often mom become successful in cutting back on milk feeds at night, because baby solid feeds are increased to one more time then just once and so does quantity..also, it takes time for each baby to leave bf..he too needs time :)
also, yes what dr said is very much true, most babies are easy to wean from 6months onwards to 9months and then some at 9months to 1 year..later than that, baby doesnt want to leave breast or bottle as he gets attached to you or bottle.
also, your dr might have told you to start offering sippy cup..start offering it, but dont expect your baby to actually sip from in a month or so..he will take time, give him time ! try the ones with soft spout, often brand nuby has been able to transition babies to sippy cup from breast or bottle..however it depends on babies likings too !
3. now about solids. aap(Amercian Academy of Pediatrics) recommends to start solids after 6months. the reason being bm no longer provides all the nutrients that baby needs and also.your baby is growing and he needs more of nutrients and now his digestion system is just ready to accept food successfully.
however, bm is still the primary diet of baby until your baby is 10months..
since your child has already accepted the solids, there is no need for you to try to make him drink more milk than cuttin back on solids. basically the concept explained about solids says that its a transition to solids, which means now you will be introducing your baby all the solids one by one, on weekly basis..so that down the line he learns to eat eventually(after a couple years ofcourse) like adults.
please note, that cutting back on solids at this point of time is not advisable for you. if at all, your child had shown sensitivity to solids, or because of just 1 feed of solids, he is feeling discomfort/extremely heavy or gassy, ne refluxes or allergies, then only if recommended by your dr with support of multivitamins, or ne vitamin supplements to your baby, your dr will ask you to start it on later stage may be after a month or so. but still he will keep insisting on giving it a restart to introduce something else !
which is not case with you at all ! so you dont have to worry..by the time your baby is 9months, looking to his acceptance to solids and preferences to taste, introduce all kinds of vegies and fruits.so that after 9month you can concentrate on finger foods and other protein rich foods like tofu, meats, and some have intrroduced esp in india, eggs yolk & fish..
i hope all confusion is cleared now.
good luck to you and have a wonderful time with your lil one
