Waiting to try:Can an underweight woman have a healthy baby?
2002-01-29
Name: nirupama

Hello everybody
My height is 5'2 and weight is 95 lbs. I am 24 years old and married for 2 years now. Pressure is building up from both side parents to have a baby now. I am also thinking like Reshma can underweight women have healthy babies? We don't have any preference regarding baby's sex. Any healthy baby would be just fine. I think babies themselves are amazing. But I am terrified to get pregnant because of my weight. Can I have a healthy baby? Or do the baby end up premature because of my weight? I am a pure vegetarian. I would like to work on my weight before getting pregnant. What is the ideal weight for my height and age? How can I pick up weight? Any suggestion would be highly appreciated

Hi nirupama
I'm also an underweight woman who is afraid of getting pregnant. I have submitted a question in \";relations - women's issue\"; and I got a couple replies. If you are interested you can go through them. I think this will help you too as we both are sailing in the same ship. Good luck

regards
anu

Dear Nirupama, don't just worry at all. I was 40 Kgs when I conceived and I'm really thin by all standards. I had a Normal delivery and an absolutely healthy baby. Infact, my \";healthier\"; friends had a caesarian !! Mind is where everything is. All the best & enjoy !!

hello,

the very first thing i can suggest is that even before thinking of conception, u must see a good gyn/obs in ur area and stick to her for the whole duration of ur pregnancy (if possible).

Moreover....
as per the weight chart for women (seen on the net), you shd weigh somewhere 49 - 60. but, what i personally feel ( I AM NOT A DOC) that if u feel perfectly healthy from inside (i.e. u don't get tired very soon, or u are not anaemic, or u r not suffering from any sort of ailment) u need not worry all the time reg ur health.

but, ofcourse, once u concieve, ur body must be prepared to give the desired nourishment to ur would be child. 5-6 mnths before concieving (i feel), u shd start taking proper diet that includes fresh sprouts, red beet, carrot, soup, fruits (esp. those with high iron content) green leafy vegetables and any good multivitamin + folic acid (if ur dr prescribes). and above all, BE CHEERFUL..... :-)

and when u see some diff in urself, go ahead for conception. and during ur preg, always be in touch with ur gyn.

GOOD LUCK.....
