Hello!
I just moved from the us to india and had visited this site before I left in preperation for what to take to India. My sons were 40 days old when we left and are now three months. Basically, like a normal paranoid new parent, I packed huge stocks of Enfamil (I'm formula feeding) , diapers, bottles, avent nipples, sterilizers etc, only to find that you get ALL THIS and much more in India. The reason I say much more is because I also found Indian brands and very easily stuff from the middle east, japan, uk and europe, while in america you mainly get stuff from america, so in some ways the choice is wider. Yes, the imported stuff is a little more expensive here, but seriously, spend a couple of 100 bucks extra and save yourself the hassle of packing and lugging huge amounts of baby stuff across the world. For any of you coming to Bombay here are just some of the shops I found in the last month that you can get American and other firang stuff at:
Just Moms at Breach Candy, Kamdhenu at Chandralok Napeansea Road, and ofcourse Akbarally's Premsons and Lifestyle at Phoenix Mills has a whole bunch of stuff.
And the first two will home deliver everything (which is a pleasure after the US).
So for all those who don't want to risk going Indian, and are wondering if you'll get the firang Pampers, or Huggies, or replacements for Playtex dropins, avent sterilizers, Gerber foods in those cute little jars, and whatnots the answer is a BIG YES.
But yes, be prepared to pay a little more for each of these things.
