Common Body Changes during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is one of the sweetest joys but it is also a period of body changes. Get your knowledge right about the common body changes that occur during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is one of the life’s miracles. It changes your life and most importantly your body. It seems quite amazing to believe that you are growing a life; a child is inside your body. It is really incredible. You must be aware that your belly will increase in size, you would feel fatigued often and you might have the vomiting tendency as well. Well, besides these good and exciting things to imagine and feel about, there are body changes and pregnancy symptoms that make many women feel uncomfortable. Let us take a look at the common body changes during pregnancy.

Body Changes during Pregnancy

Here some of the common body changes that are experienced by women during pregnancy.

Morning Sickness

You must have heard about morning sickness and perhaps thought that this is the feeling that pregnant women have just in the morning. Well, despite of the name, morning sickness lasts the whole day and sometimes for as long as nine months also. You might feel that it is just a vomiting tendency or perhaps actually going through it. In some cases this leads to dehydration and severe heartburn as well. Some end up in the hospital and is not easy to handle for some as well. Some may not experience it at all. But there is no need to worry as your doctor can help you to keep the condition under control.

Increased Frequency of Urination

One of the most annoying things about being pregnant is that you will need to pee often during day as well as at night also. Some even lose control and suffer from leakage also which is known as urine incontinency. However, there are some exercises that your doctor or caregiver will direct you to do so that you have some control over the leakage at least.

Changes in Breast

You may experience tenderness in your breast. When a woman gets pregnant her breasts start preparing for the lactation causing tenderness in breasts. The areola may become larger. In later stages of pregnancy, the breast may even start leaking in some cases. You must consult your doctor if you feel uncomfortable or notice any abnormal change in your breasts.

Changes in Vagina

Vagina of pregnant women becomes more sensitive during pregnancy. The chances of vaginal infection also increase due to the increased sensitivity. Therefore, it is a must to keep the vaginal area clean and wear comfortable undergarment during this stage. Women may also notice increase in vaginal discharge. However, if vaginal discharge is accompanied with itching, foul smell, burning sensation or any other abnormal symptom, it is necessary to report to doctor immediately as it can be a sign of vaginal infection.

Diastasis Recti

Increased tension on the abdominal wall leads to diastasis recti, which is a separation between the left and the right side of the muscle that covers the front side of the belly. Usually this persists even after the pregnancy period is over. When you become pregnant again, the outline of the uterus seems come out and sticks to the stomach. In some cases, diastasis recti may remain for much longer time even after child birth. Your doctor may suggest appropriate ways to deal with it.

Unusual Skin Changes

You must have heard that during pregnancy there is a glow seen on the face of the mother-to-be which is unusual. Well, here it is about the skin changes that do not look good. Many women experience brown or yellow patches on their face. Spider veins and skin tags are also seen most often. A lot of women experience eruption of acne because of the number of hormones that are secreted inside their body. Although the percentage of women developing red, itchy patches on thighs, butt and abdomen during pregnancy is low, it cannot be overlooked as well.

Intimacy Issues

Although weight gain and many other physical changes will make you feel awkward in front of your partner, you should not let this come in between you and your partner. You can take your partner to obstetrician visit and discuss your intimacy issues with your doctor also. A healthcare provider will talk out and make things easier for you saying that these are all normal issues and may suggest ways to deal with it.

Apart from these many women develop strong sense of smell and even feel aversion for specific strong food odours. Not only this, constipation is one of the most common symptoms during pregnancy which often leads to hemorrhoids. It is better to consult with your doctor and opt for healthy eating adding more fibrous foods in your diet.

No matter what problem you face during pregnancy, it is good to consult it with your doctor so that you get the right advice and relief from the discomfort.
