excellent article. as parents, no matter what our feelings about our children's teachers, we must always instil respect for them. on the same note, we must let our children know that we understand any grievances which they may have.

i have removed my child out of two class rooms because of the teachers unprofessional behavior. do teachers have to respect children? teachers say it they want respect so matter of fact.what would happen if a student demanded the same respect in return.

as a mum of an adolscent boy and a middle-school teacher , i am really beliving that my comments are justified . let me amphasise that teaching is not a business relationship. it entails alot of commitment and compassion and students should respect this and behave accordingly .

my 4 and half year old boy attends a local kindergarten . it is a kindergarten and child care and as both me and my husband are working full time he is there from morning to afternoon. he has been attending this instution for the ast year and it is quite well reputed amongst our social circle. the other day however when i went to pick him up, i got a very unpleasent experience. he had been in a scrimish with a copule of other boys and was being reprimanded by the teacher. as a teacher myself , i respect the authority of the teacher to reprimand him . however the language that she was using didnot befint that to use on a four year old . on his face she was calling him a stupid boy with no common sense . when he attempted to say sorry she told him to shut up!. i was outraged . what hurt me more was that she used a wooden scale to spank him . as i believe in bringing my child up in a non-violent way , this brought tears to my eyes . when i spoke to my child , i learnt that it was the other kids who are twins who began the fight and needless to say that my child has been reluctant to go to school since the incident. there were also visible injuries on my childs arms of being scratched . the next day i asked him what his teacher told him and the other boys . he said that the teacher didnot say naything to him and he did not know of the other two. at a school function recently , i met with the parents of the twins and they were oblivious of the matter when i brought it up. i feel that this is brutally unfair and as a teacher and a mother i am upset. we have brought up the issue with managemnet but there has 'nt been a reply. another issue that cncerns me is the fact that f my son grows up hearig such things , he will be forming a negative vieew of the world i was considering changing his kindergarten but as we have already moved our of our hometon and are due to migrate again in a few years time will it be too muvch tracsitions for him ? i would appreciate any advice on this mayyer

this message is in reply to many of your rude and scarcastic relpys espicially those like sam finsher and the like . while some of you are thanking the article for its information , expressing a concern or presenting a valid point of view , there are the lot of you who not just here but in many places else have insulted , ridiculed and hurt people excuriatingly. my point is foccused on the comment that sma fisher has stated saying that teaching is a business relationship. like the ejntery before mine tells you teaching is not a business relationship as it entails alot of compassion and love. your teachers will no doubt be proud to call u a person or student they have taught if you rise to fame in any feild in the future . if it was a business realtionship , you would be a comodity that come to them and left them and did not make a dofferencce after that . every student that a teacher teaches leaves a legacy in the teachers mind . you would 'nt want your teachers to turn their backs and walk away upon seeing you as someone great in a few years time . they may be a recomendation to your future employers though i dare not say that you'd enter the teaching profession . let me also hilight to you the reasons why i think that teaching is such a noble profesion . at this point i believe that it is important that i mention that i am not advocating or promoting anything . these are simply my own opinions . 1. youn need to learn new things throughout a lifetime . some of these you teach yourself and others someone teaches you . these individuals are in direct and indirect ways your teachers . 2. we are attempting the eridacte illetracy and bring education to every child on earth . who can do this ? whom so we need for this ? 3. teaching helps shape the minds of the future amd bulid the world of the future . however i donot agree with a point in this article . it expresses a teacher's lament at the students not behaving eith the consideration that a teacher is on voard the train . yes though i agree that if you see a teacher , you should give up your seat . if you are scoffing at this , the reasn is simply beceuse she is an older person . also if the teacher approaches you , you should be polite and talk in a decent manner (even if she is reducing your scial life ). for heaven's sake that that person is an adult and a person you know . however teachers should not expect to be included in the life of your tudents outside the classroom . yes you love them like your own kids (or more) but they see you as the traditional person in their modern circle . don't be a sore thumb . draw your limits and be a teacher yet a little friend . they shoould be able to approach you with problkems they face but if you are going to be that sore thumb , you are goiing to loose the respect that this article commands .

i would say , respect your teachers, but even teachers should know how to deal with children in proper way, it should be both ways, then only students will be able to inculcate, 'acharya devo bhava' in them.
