Developmental Concerns:Is this kind of self- torture?

Name: Khushi

Hello,

This query is of my 1 Yrs 5 Months son.
One thing I noticed from last few days that whener things goes opposite to his wish OR he dislike the things he just hit his head on to the ground (self torture).

For example:
Whenever his favorite song / ad plays on Television Set he enjoy, dance.
But as the song / ad finish he make tantrum cries loudly and suddenly start hitting his head on the flour.

Initially we just laugh on his activity, but later we realize that it not good habit / practice which can cause a serious injury to him.

My concern is why he is acting like this? In out home no one teach him to hit his head to the ground. Is this kind of self- torture?

Regards,
Rohan

Hello,

It is not self torture. It is just your child' s way of asserting his or her demands.

At this age they start throwing tantrums to gauge how you respond. If you give in and do what he wants you to do, he will continue to do that.

The best thing to do is distract him. Show him something else he likes. That way he does not focus on his tantrum.

Hope this helps.

since i have been training young kids for motor skills and fun fitness for a while i see that kids develop most of their sports movements then and as early as 4 years. parents need to be aware that forcing kids into sports at a very early age will not get them far, as they end up losing interest quickly. ... - Sunny Singh [View Message]
