I just got my blood sugar test done yestr and its elevated, everything so far was smooth sailing and this has made me so disappointed. Yestr was my first test, I was not asked to fast or anything but just given a solution to drink and after an hour my blood was drawn. My level is 204 and the normal is 135. My gynac has asked me to follow the rigid diet and along with that has asked to keep checking my blood sugar with the diabetes meter 4 times a day after every meal. I have heard that its a painful method.
Has anyone of you got ur blood sugar tested? My gynac is not going to do the second test which is done after few days where blood is drawn three time after every one hour, one before fasting, while fasting and after fasting. I don' t know many ladies who have the first test elevated are asked to follow a diet for few days and tested again, and if the triple tests results come normal its as good as they don' t have any diabetes anymore. But in my case he says my levels are high so I need t follow a diet till my delivery and keep testing at home till I deliver.
Somebody please share ur experiences. I do not want to keep poking myself till I deliver. I do not mind following a diet and healthy regime now and then going for a triple test after few days.

I' m from the September board.Even i had the 100 gms GTT testquite early,I think in my fourth month. My sugar levels were high.My doc then sent me to a endocrinologist. The doc was really good.He explained that I' m sensitive for sugar so i had the GTT.He told me that we never have so much of sugar in our daily diets and it can be controlled by following a diet. That' s if you eat less sugary an d oily stuff.Which is what i do normally. So he has just put me on a high calcium diet and for the past two months everything' s fine.My sugar levels are normal. The cravings are troublesome but when i think of my baby i feel strong enough to fight it off.I had also been to a dietician.I have small snacks in between breakfast, lunch and dinner.I don' t have aerated drinks, juice and have been been told to have only a few fruits.Besides that no sweets and junk food.Only home cooked food with lots of veggies and salad for fibre.
GD is controllable and the only way it will affect your baby is that he or she will be real chubby. So don' t worry it will not help.Just gear up and be determined to go through this phase.GD dissappears after delivery so don' t worry.Take care and keep in touch.
Suman replied. HI Madhu,
I was searching for discussion on GD test and found yours. Last week I had my 1 hour Glucose test and I had milk before I went for that. My level was 170 so my Gyn asked me to come for 3 hour test. Which is Friday 23rd.I am also scared like you and hope my sugar level comes to normal. I have been eating a lot of Bananas and Watermelon earlier. Now I have stopped.
Your gyn should ask you to go for 3 hours test. Without doign that he cant conclude that you are diabetic. High breakfast also adds to the sugar level.

My doctor is not going for a triple marker test as he thinks that my blood sugar level at the very first test was high and he is sure that I will fail in my triple tests. My first blood sugar test read 204. As per my gynac' s instructions I' m using the diabetes monitor every 4 times a day. My levels are high on that after each meal, say in between 160 and 200. Only my fasting level first think in the morning comes low.
I have cut down on rice infact I just have 1/2 cup at night, rest of the time its either whole wheat bagels with little margarine, tea with no sugar, low fat milk, no potatoes and only Rotis, salads, and veges, sometimes fish and chicken. I have just started following this diet 3 days back, maybe it takes time for the levels to come down.
I' m more worried for the baby, I feel good movements and all but still I' m worried. I will start going for walks now. I live in US and the weather has started getting better now. I feel hungry all time but cannot eat like heavy meals and in between snacks do not fill my stomach. Since I was so used to eating rice it will take some time to adjust.
reshmi replied. iam frm august due date club.say u did ur first glucose test that is 50 gm glucose test rite.even i did that ,but i was asked to fast for 8-10 hrs and then as u told, the procedure was done.my reading was 138.doc asked me to cut on sugar and carbos.then one-two week bac i was tested for my 100gm gtt blood is withdrawn 3hrs for testing sugar.all readings are normal.
so wat i wanna tell is why ur doc isnt goin for 100gm test.that is more accurate and can rule out GD.this test is done during 24-28th week to get acurate results./where ru residing india or abroad?here in gulf it is compulsory.my freinds reading for 50 gm gtt was 135 ,but they made her do 100gm gtt to be more sure.
dont worry gd is not bad.just ctrl ur diet like no sugar in tea, coffee ,juice, nad less rice.instead of 3 meals make it meals in moderation.also go for 30 mints mild walk.this was advised to me when my 50 gm test result wasnt favorable.so eat loads of fruits like orange.moosambi ,no potatos and bananas(ya ok in moderation 1-2 perweeek).eat cabbages ,fishes nad chicken ,eggs, spinach.drink water a lot.) .
happy pregnancy ,no tensions pls.

JK replied. Hi Madhu,
I a not from this board but couldn' t stop myself from writing when I read your post.
Don' t worry. GD won' t harm your baby. You can keep your blood sugar levels under control with strict diet and exercise. You can try taking more protein rich food (if you are non vegetarian - you can try taking chicken, fish) , concentrate more on leafy vegetables and salad' s.
You can walk for 15-30 min after each of your main course so that your levels will be in control.
I have never heard that if triple markers test results are normal then it means there is no diabetes. You will need to follow the strict diet pattern until you deliver the baby.
You will be asked to take the test again after your delivery to rule out the chances of having diabetes. (GD generally goes away after you deliver the baby)

i meant instead of 3 meals u can hav 5-6 meals in moderation.so sugar wont be much elevated.more protein, veggies, fruits ,milks .go for less carbos and juices.hav the as fruit itself.so canned juices heavy in sugar.drink tender coconut water inly 2% sugar.very nutrious.
