One of the best methods of upperlip hair removal is threading. Threading removes the tiniest and finest hair right from the root. Here’s how you can thread at home.
Getting rid of hair on the upperlip is extremely annoying. If you get it waxed, you need for it to grow a certain length before you can wax it again. If you get it threaded at the parlour, you wait until there is a slight green shadow before visiting the parlour again. Bleach isn’t very good for the skin and it leaves the hair lighter but not completely invisible. And hair removal cream doesn’t remove the hair from the root, causing hair to grow back thicker.
The best method of hair removal from the upperlip is threading. You don’t have to wait for hair to grow a certain length – threading removes the tiniest and finest hair right from the root. Tweezing does the same as well, but tweezing is more painful, more time consuming, and tends to leave in-growths.
If you have easy access to a parlour just across your home which charges Rs. 5 for upperlip threading, you can skip this article. But if not, here’s how you can remove upperlip hair at home, easily and quickly.
Take around 2 feet (24 inches) of thread length. Make sure you use a good quality, strong thread. There is no special thread for threading, you can use any thread as long as it is strong and doesn’t snap easily.
Take both ends and knot them up. You need to have a circle of thread. Although beauticians normally use thread straight from the reel keeping one end in their mouth and holding the other end, you don’t need to get so technical – especially because you will not be able to thread your own upperlip in this manner.
Now hold the thread with both hands, and wind it around ten times. The wound bit now lies in the center of the circle.
Now, place the thread around the fingers of both hands. Push the wound portion towards one hand by widening the fingers of one hand and simultaneously closing the fingers of the other hand.
Similarly, by opening the fingers of the closed hand and closing the fingers of the other hand, push the wound portion in the other direction.
Keep practicing pushing the wound portion back and forth. Once you are able to push back and forth easily, you can move on to the other step – practicing on a body part.
It is best to practice threading on your leg. Most people have a lot of hair on their legs and their legs are easily reachable. They don’t have to strain too much to look for hair or to reach it, and they don’t have to look in a mirror.
Sitting on your bed or on a chair, prop up one leg and identify the portion from which you want to remove hair. Place the thread on this portion. Let the wound part be one end of the hair, and the thread from the other side should be on both sides of the hair you want to remove. Now, move the wound portion to the other side, making sure that it catches the hair while moving. It will then lift the hair from the root as it moves back and forth.
You will need practice before you can manage. And if you know how to thread your upperlip yourself, you can run thread through it for a couple of minutes every other day so your upperlip is always completely free from hair. No more waiting for the hair to grow back before your next threading or waxing session at the parlour.

I have been doing threading on my chin from 2years. Hair growth increases if we do threading. What is your recommendation?
Regds,
LathaName: HappyBusy Bee City: z Comments: Threading is more painful the week before your monthly period, as your sensitivity is heightened. Threading actually minimises hair growth, over time, so that hairs grow back finer and takes longer to grow back.It is not advisable to shave hair, as it WILL grow back thicker and coarser and there is the possibility of ingrowing hairs. Some people wax hairs on the face, though this is not advisable too, as your skin is more sensitive and delicate on the face, than on other parts of the body, so this may cause bad reactions on the skin, such as spots, or bumps. After threading the face, your pores are open, so it is best not to visit a salon while wearing foundation, as your pores can become clogged, hence it may result in spots!Unfortunately, there is no definite, miraculous method to remove excess hair permanently. Even methods such as laser hair removal requires more than one treatment, and in many cases, will require a few treatments, which is costly and time consuming. Also, there is no guarantee that the hair will never grow back, though it does MINIMISE growth. A way of minimising pain slightly is to stretch the skin while threading. So when you are threading your upper lip, stretch the skin with your tongue, or purse your lips together. Also, the longer you leave your hairs to grow, the more it'll hurt!Name: sxc biatch City: london Comments: oioi 2 all da sxc boiz out der in da london dnt worrii jus come on ere 4 a chat lol nah but relli tht pics r relli not helpful i might aswell keep shaving my legs coz it dnt help 1 lil bit!!!!!!Name: NAZLEY SAGE City: cape town south africa Comments: could you please send me a step by step guide on how to do threading.also step by step guide to waxing, laser hair removalName: NAZLEY SAGE City: cape town south africa Comments: could you please send me a step by step guide on how to do threading.also step by step guide to waxing, laser hair removalName: pie City: S'pore Comments: PEOPLE, I GET IT!, I had to read it twice though, and it hurts a whole lot, but nevertheless, thank you soooooo much!Name: Neha City: USA Comments: Wow this is amazingly good...I got a clear idea, I tired it but its little painful..but experience makes man perfect..

The twisted string should grab onto the hairs as it moves from right to left (or left to right, whichever way you prefer) and it will pull the hairs out as the twist moves from right to left (you don't have to lift up at all). It will hurt, so expect this (if it hurts, you know it's working). Well, I have got the worst history of eyebrows coz when I was 12 I did them yeah, and well lets just my mum wasn’t very happy! Well, my cuz does hers wickedly and I only pluck, not thread, I’m too scared I’ll muck up my shape. I’m so annoyed with my self for doing them at such a young age coz well I couldn’t get the hang of it, like a weekly process. I hope to do it at my local salon but I’m pretty scared and nervous coz I don’t want them to muck anything up for me. My family do not believe in removal on the excess hairs but I still have to get them done! (I had the most shaped eye brows before I plucked! Naturally buff!) : (

Find a good wax that is good for your skin. You can get some wax products that are specially designed for your face. Just do bit of research about that.

Threading makes ur eyebrows look choong!!! L8rz...Name: Natasha City: Los Angeles Comments: I've always done my own hair removal. I usually go somewhere really good, have them do it once, and then I go home and learn based on how they did it. I've always known threading wasn't that hard, but I've never gotten it done, and this instruction was really easy to follow. The only thing I added is moistening the thread, either on a sponge, or if you're working on yourself, in your mouth. It helps lubricate it so it glides on the skin easier. However, I can't imagine doing my lip. After drawing the thread over my moustache once, I almost shrieked. I'll keep waxing that, but I'll definitely be touching up my brows with thread!Name: Angie City: Singapore Comments: Pls provide the name and address of the shop for hair removal threading on face at Little India in Singapore, thank very much.Name: Teresa City: Minneapolis Comments: The pictures help a lot- I would have been confused otherwise. It wasn;t the easiest thing I have done but after playing around with it for sometime I finally made it. I have lots of facial hair...chin,upperlip, cheeks. I dont do anything to the cheeks except bleach them. But I have to visit the parlor EVERY WEEK to remove the fuzz of my chin and lip. Fortunatly the beautician charges reasonable rates like $3 for chin and upperlip each. Back to threading, its still tough to pull hair frm the chin. I am working on it ! Thanx for the instructions !!Name: mal City: LA, USA Comments: Its me again ! This time I was able to thread my chin too with near perfection and am soooo glad that I can do it myself now. Takes some patience but if one is as determined as I was, then it should be just a matter of a half hour of real practice before u get it right. And in my opinion, using a small thread is better so that yr fingers have more grip. Fingers will hurt but what the heck its tolerable. Use a band aid on the hurting finger or somethn. I am just so relieved now...I was beginning to lose my self esteem becoz of my facial hair..tried creams and wax strips but to no avail. Still had to drive over to the parlor every week...no more from now one...maybe just fr my eyebrows. Hey girls who are feeling dejected coz u cant get it right....dont worry..u will be able to in time. Good luck ! Name: ..... City: ..... Comments: Well, I thought there was no other way to thread other than biting one end of the string & holding the other end with ur hands!! awesome tip!! Name: Rebs City: Oakland, California Comments: This was great! Obviously sometimes one technique works better 4 some people more than others. I've never seen threading done b4 and I got the basics pretty easily. I love how cheap this technique is! I'm not very good, but the 1st try at my upper lip, it was completely fine--and it hurt a lot less than the last time I tried waxing.Name: anonymous City: Chicago Comments: Thanks for the stepbystep information. I never thought I'd be able to do my upper lip by myself ever......Name: me City: california Comments: Finally I have mastered the art of threading my upperlip and chin, the former being easier to do. As someone here said, make sure that the hair is right inbetween the 'v' of the twisted thread and give it a good tug when u glide the thread along yr fingers. I have been going to the parlor for this since I was 15 and its been 16 yrs now and let me tell u, the upperlip hair hasn't grown coarser and I dont get any stubble. But my chin hair did get thicker. Still once u learn to thread hair then u can just do yr chin/upperlip every 2-3 days and u will never have to see the hair grow back disgustingly long and thick. U can thread even if the hair is very small and beginning to come out which is not possible in waxing. Good luck folks !Name: fed-up-with-hair City: antwerp Comments: look everyone, i will tell u something about hair. when i was 18 someone told me about laser and i decided to make an appointment to have a clear view. i had some hair on my upper lip and side cheeks, but not remarkably alot. i still thought it would be better if id try the laser.
they convinced me and said that it would take up to 5,6 sessions because to get rid of the hair. as i have dark hair but fair skin i had 7 sessions to make sure the hair would be gone. but the result was that i waisted alot of time and money and i realised when i stopped having those sessions, my hair was so thick ,coarse and i had ";new hair"; on places where i didnt have hair before!!!! for example on my chin, my cheecks, my neck, well lets say all around my face!!! i was so angry with those laser-specialists! i waisted so much money and it got only wurse!
i was so unhappy, i felt like a man after a while because i didnt know what to do with it...
after a while i heard about this threadening and a friend of mine told me that there was a chinese lady in our neighbourhood who's got a threading saloon, so i started going there. it really helps, the hair is not that thick anymore and my skin is nice and smooth. it gets a bit red after she finishes, but i took your advice and i started using aloe vero oil after eich session and it helps alot! the redness dissapears within a few minutes.
as i have hair on my cheeck, neck, upper lip and chin, i pay my threading-lady 25 euros every two weeks. which is quite alot. I was so desperate to find a way to do it myself and i finally decided to look for some info on the internet, i love this internet soooo much ppl!! it gives you all the answers. anyway, i started doing it myself now and i still have a bit difficulties doing it for my cheeck, but I am getting so good at it. So my advice to all of you is; whatever method you try, it will hurt a bit. Nothing is permanent, and laser is so expensive and they really messed up with my face, i dont know about others, but they really messed up with my face and my moneyyyy!!! i payed 80 euros for eich session, and i had 7!!!!! anyway, now i found my peace with this threading thing. your explanation was so clear and i am so thankful that there are at least some sites where they tell you exactly how to do it, cuz most sites want u to go to their saloons, they want money of course. yalah, anyway, good luck to all of you out there and whatever you do, just be carefull and dont pull to hard with the threading or else you will hurt your fingers. remember, every method hurts a bit, nothing is permanent, but this threading-method really helps!!! you save alot of money if you manage to do it yourself, the hair gets thinner after a while and it takes longer to grow. so thread away!!Name: LALITA City: KISSIMMEE,FLORIDA Comments: Hi, thanks very much for writing the article on threading. I tried it,and it works great. However the pain is a bit too much.Is there anything I can used to ease the pain?
thanksName: me City: CA Comments: Lalitha, to reduce the pain there is actually no option. Altho there are some parlors that use some anesthetising cream. Its supposed to work but then it will be tough to pull the hair from the root once it is moist. The thread will slip easily. The beauticians themselves quit using them due to the difficulty. Hey I guess u will have to endure some pain but it yr skin will sensitize after a few times :) this is speaking from experience. Just think about pulling the hair out and shut out the pain factor. good luck !Name: jaime City: london Comments: threading, like waxing or tweezing, becomes less painful each time you do it. i've worked doing threading and waxing for 6 years, and all my clients have had the same experience as i. have faiith! if you have redness or discomfort, apply ice wrapped in a clean cloth. make sure your skin is taught (you can push the corner of the lip outwards with pressure from your tongue, or stretch your mouth open) so it doesn't get pinched or cut. if you can't get laser treatment, threading is much better than waxing or bleaching for the face. ladies should never shave! thanks for the great site.Name: cheryl City: singpore Comments: if you use your tongue to make the upperlip skin taut, it wont hurt as much. Thanks so much for making this page!Name: cheese City: singapore Comments: i have hair growing on my upperlips. I have considered threading, however, after reading the QNA i think i better avoid it since it would thicken the hair and make the skin darker. What should i do to remove the hair ? Its quite dark. My mom says it will go away without touching it ?! What should i do? Help me people!Name: Cevan City: Cebú Comments: try dippinag a cotton ball on a small bowl of warm water and dab it on your upperlip or any area where you wish to do threading. this will open up the pores and will somehow lessen the pain and it helps in loosening the hair too.Name: Cevan City: Cebú Comments: about the 2nd and 3rd picture... they aren't really necessary as you just need to tie both ends and wind the thread until you get it to look like the one in the 4th picture. BTW for people with smaller hands, i suggest using only an 18-inch long thread as a 2-feet long thread would be hard to control.Name: Kat City: London, UK Comments: Been practiceing this for the past half an hour on my leg! Going to try my face soon. :S
for anyone who is still confused...the hair gets caught in the Y bit of the thread and pulled out as the 2 threads twist together.

I have been threading for about two years with an aesthetician and although she charges only $4 Canadian, it's a bit out of my way. This technique was so easy to get the hang of (practiced first on my leg to see it work) and then my upper lip was a breeze! Took some getting used to doing it on my face from my leg as the thread sometimes slips off my fingers, but some practice and now there's nothing left! I was researching and was told to use 100% cotton thread but did not have any and so I used 100% polyester, it worked just as well.
One tip: Use an alcohol swab to clean the area first to avoid infection.

I now know how to thread!! My days of visiting the eyebrow shop are over! The pictures are small, but clear to me, and the article is great! At first I couldn't pinch any hair on my legs, so I took a big risk and went straight for the eyebrows...and it worked perfectly! I am so proud of myself, being a 14 year old who can now thread her own eyebrows and her friends'! Practice makes perfect, and I'm sure I will get better as time goes on! Most people fail to understand that the cost to learn threading ranges anywhere from $800.00 to $1500.00. Then a wonderfully kind hearted person comes along and does something wonderful like posting an article and pictures to illustrate the technique, and people are never satisfied.Readers of this site and everyone in general, need to learn to be grateful for any morsel of knowledge that is imparted to us. For those of you who had loved ones with the knowledge and failed to take advantage of their fortuitous situation, must learn to be even more grateful for any knowledge or wisdom that is thrown their way.
To the author of this site, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the knowledge that you have given us.Name: Jenn City: fairfax Comments: The instructions were very clear. I am a 15 year old and even I could understand your steps. Thank you.Name: Mandy City: Vancouver, Canada Comments: Interesting. I didn't know you didn't need a special thread. I started threading my upperlip and chin myself ever since i chanced upon this site that taught me how to do it myself. I was so obsessed and delighted that I could actually do it, that I started threading every other day. Slowly it went to everyday and then twice daily. I used to pull out the tiniest hair too and n=before I knew it my whole chin had started sprouting hair so I HAD to do it everyday. Because of that my skin got really rough and started getting bumps and red marks which eventually turned brown. Heck it looked like i had a perpetual 50clock shadow. It was soooooo embarassing that I started hiding out in my home...couldn't even look at anybody on the face. Believe u me, I probably had the least self esteem in this planet. People stared. And then recently I started using 2 scar removal creams 23 times daily. Brand Colonial Dames Scar Care and VitaK For Bruises. Both lighten the skin and contain chemicals that are harmless on skin. Did my own bit of internet research. Its been a week now and am soooooooooooooo relived that it works for me. The dark shade has faded a lot and blended with my normal skin tone. I tellu, the ride till wasn't pleasant. S girls, go easy on yr threading. Do it like once a week max not more. U dont wanna end up with a dark shade on yr chin and lips.Name: jen City: san francisco Comments: It totally works! The polyestercotton mixed thread that I used cuts my fingers up. I doubled the thread and it seemed to help but, I think I need to try the 100% cotton thread to see if there is an actual difference. I did get most of the hair off of both legs! It barely hurt! Thank you for this wonderful information!Name: Lee City: Malaysia Comments: I had searched for hours for threading guide and finally I found this website, I have unsightful hairy legs and because of that I tried all methods in getting rid of it. I found waxing is the best but sadly, I've to wait about 6 months for the hairs to fully grow again, and during the long wait I can't use shaving or hair removal cream, it just doens't work, in fact it make it worst, so I though of threading, because even the finest hair, with threading, I can remove it much more easier and less pain compare to tweezing!
Thank you very much for your time and effort sharing this guide unselfishly. I'm so excited that now I know how to tread those unwanted hairs! Millions thanks again! I thought I'll never find out how in the internet! Thank you!!

This was a great howto article. I was able to do it. Bless you!Name: amrita City: Ontario, Canada Comments: Hey, I'm 16 years old and just learned how to thread my upper lip in less than an hour thanks to this site! :) I mean, for all those people who are complaining about the pictures not being clear enough...stop! Because they are great! All you really need is an open hour to actually get the hang of first using the tread to remove unwanted hair! Here are a few tips that I came across while threading for the first time myself:
Make sure you freeze the area before beginning.[it makes it quite more easier, and less painful] Also, after threading apply mosterizer[it will sooth the skin] :)
Try not to use the wounded thread back and forth...as you may just feel more comfortable with one side [while threading]
Some of you people mentioned thicker hairs forming the next day...this maybe due to not getting the hairs lifted from the root...and its just breaking off the surface instead. Make sure you get as close as possible with the thread on your skin, even though it may pinch.
If you do get the grasp of threading, yet it still won't work, try changing your piece of thread, as it might be worn out
Also, make sure you don't do this everyday, or more than once a day!!! It irritates your skin, creating bump, red marks, and even scaring! This is especially important for those with sensitive skin! (I may only be 16, but come on people, this is common sense!) It's okay to not look your best once in a while!
So, anyway...those were just some of the tips I had. I bet there are many more you guys might find! Love the site btw. Big ups to the editor! And it's great people all aroung the world will now get the chance to thread without having to pay to get it done!
All the best to everyone learning! I know I still am :|
Cheers!

City: Fayetteville NC, USA Comments: I just did this after reading this site!!
I didn't get it the first reading because I was just browsing through the instructions...
The idea is to make a loop of thread... think circle, people... give it some twists for the middle... like 7 or 10....
hold both sides of the twisted loop... its shaped kind of like a figure 8 or the pattern on the butt of a black widow spider...
Widen one end of the twisted loop with the hand... narrow the other end of the twisted loop in the other hand...
You will notice that the twisted part of the loop moves from side to side depending on which side of the loop you open and close...
Thats it!!!
The twisted part will catch the hairs and twist them up as you move the twist by opening and closing the ends of the loop!! Thats what pulls the hairs out!
My eyebrows look so much better than when I tweeze them!!!
It took a really long time to learn to get hair off of targeted areas because I'm not very coordinated... but eventually I got the hang of it for the most part!
I love my new eyebrows!!!
I did my upper lip too... but not too much just in case the hair decides to grow back worse... I have just been leaving it alone and bleaching it because I don't want it to show up more!!! So I'll have to wait and see how the threading works out!
So far I really have loved this!!
I used my tweezers to get a few random hairs I wasn't able to catch... no big deal! But when I went from threading to holding my tweezers in my hand the tweezers felt GIGANTIC!!!
Good luck everyone!!
Thank you to whoever wrote this! Its great!!!

I'd like to thank you for the instructions on threading. A few other sites also have instructions, but the pix you have gave sense to the instructions. I'm working on my coordination, but gladly add this to my arsonal of methods to remove facial hair. This has removed smaller hairs than the waxing does and it is quicker than individually plucking all the hairs that I can actually see. So, Thanks!
As for all of the whiners:
You are PULLING OUT THE HAIR! I don't care what method you use, YOU WILL FEEL IT.
Hair will not come in thicker or lighter by threading than it will with any other method to pluck the hair.
Threading at home will not make your upper lip darker than having threading done at a salon. That is one of the joys of aging, not threading.
If it is gripping your skin, you can feel it, so stop before you rip your skin and restart after tightening the skin in that area. You are in control of the thread, not the other way around. This may be why some sites say it requires a license to do on others, but if you are doing it on yourself, use some common sense. Name: Bella City: Melb Aust Comments: This is a fantastic site, threading is not very common in australia. first, hair grows. unless you have whackedout hormones, it won't grow back thicker or darker not even after shaving. it just grows. shaving makes it *appear* thicker and darker because it's been bluntcut. the end isn't a fine taper like it would be if it was ripped out and had to regenerate from the root. this blunt end is what causes ingrown hairs: when shaving, ppl often use water that's too hot or soap that irritates the skin. this causes the skin to swell up a little. the razor goes over the surface and takes off a layer or two. when that grows back, it closes over the follicle and when the hair continues to grow, the blunt end can't punch through. voila: ingrown hair.
epilating can also cause ingrown hair if the new hair is too weak or thin to punch through.
threading is LESS traumatic to the skin surface than waxing, tweezing, etc, because it doesn't involve the skin. if you're getting damage to the skin frmo threading, the simple answer is it was done wrong. get it done right and there's no more problem.
the darkening of the skin described is a condition called melasma. it's most commonly seen on pregnant women but it can also occur in nonpregnant women. most often, it's sun exposure or hormones (pregnancy, the pill) but some antibiotics such as tetracycline, which is (ironically enough) used to treat acne can also cause it. and of course, you can always go back and smack your mama or your grandma since heredity can also be the cause.
to prevent those annoying pimples often gotten afterward, you NEED TO BE CLEAN! good grief, i've seen women actually threading on the bus and in the park while chatting away like it's nothing at all. if you don't want infection, don't introduce bacteria clean your skin, pplz, before AND after!Name: patti City: galloway,nj Comments: Duh,

My daughter did it to me on eye brows and they look so good and she has moved so I couldn't remember how to do threading. I learned to do it tonight after watching a YouTube video. I thought I'd practice on my leg, but when I finally did it on my face, it was actually even easier.
I don't really have upper lip hair, but my chin has several thin, fine white ones and the occasional thick, corse black one here and there. Some of the white ones can also be corse and thick. It's old age creeping up on me!
Threading took them all out! I did it on my eyebrows next, and it was great!
I had a little redness and itching, but not even as much as I sometimes get with tweezing.
With practice, I am sure that I'll never need to tweeze again. Thanks for the eay instructions on how to thread your own facial hair.
I found this article and instructions easy to try on myself.
I have tried it.... It works great, I had to try it a few times to get the hang of it but once I got going itreally worked. I tried it on my upper lip... and I must say All the hair went. It took me good 20minutes.
Once again thank you. Il be saving myself £10.00 just to have a facial hair removal.Name: saba City: England Leeds Comments: I forgot to add to my previous comment:
Withoute miss I usually use to go 4 a full face wax including my eyebrows.
I started going to another salon and the beautician there told me that she only threads eyebrows and not wax them... I then asked her why? and she replied: When I use to go for my training I was told waxing around the eye area stretches the skin and loosens it, The reason for that is the eye area does not get enough excercise, with the rest of the face its different cos there is alot of movement going on!
Thats when I had my brows threaded and Il tell you sumthin, The shape of the eybrows appear to be more fine and great looking.
I also asked the woman how long will it take for the hair to grow back and she said that depends on your growth. I also asked her if it will grow back fine and she said yes it would.

This is very misleading...
Actually, there IS a special Thread for threading and, you know what? NO OTHER THREAD MUST BE used ever! I teach threading and I have written the first book on threading in the world, I supply the "SPECIAL" thread for threading as well. How about I send you information you can print here, so that interested people can learn the right way to thread, both on themselves and others (2 methods)?
