Routine Tests:first scan

Hi all,
Thanks for the earlier replies.
I would like to know if its possible to see the baby thru abdominal scan at 6 weeks(4 weeks after conception).
OR is it a must that at such early stage only a transvaginal scan can reveal the details.

rgds.

Hi Naz,
As I told u that I went thr' transvaginal scan in 7th week....and believe me its not painful.....yep surely I was afraid too at the begining and hesitant thinking abt the pain but they put a lot of gel on the thing that they insert inside so apart from an initial discomfort I did not feel the pain ....just wanted to share it with u.Take care.

dear Naz
you can see through pelvic ultrascan. Not from abdominal, it's most important that you confirm the pregnancy is uterine first before going on abdominal scan, otherwise it can lead to many confusion if done directly on abdomen. Theoretically you would be able to see fetus from week 7 even by abdominal scan, but there are many odds.

Hi ,

Today I had been to the doctor. I opted for the abdominal scan . the result showed a gestational sac with 27.5mm dia size and an age of 7 weeks +/- 2 weeks. but more details couldnt be seen . my doc said it might be difficult by abdominal scan , but i really really am very hesitant of undergoing the vaginal scan . I have heard that its quite painful.
So I was asked to undergo another scan after 2 weeks.

could anyone please comment on whether the presence of a gestational sac confirms a normal pregnancy?

since Im currently in Japan, its real tough managing with doctors here who know very minimum english.

Rgds.
