Due Date Club April 2004:Tests in 5th month

Name: essaar Hi everybody,

I am in my 20th week of preg. I have an appointment on 20th Jan (5th month check-up) I was told that an u/s will be taken on that day. Dr. told that there will be a detailed check up on the above said date. I know AFP and amino tests are taken during this time. Do they take any other tests? Please let me the tests taken during this month so that I can enquire about the same with my Dr. I wish to hear from all of you (tests done is U.S, S’pre, Australia, etc), even though I am based at dubai.

Hi Essar,
I live in singapore. During my 5th month i had a detailed u/s which measures all the internal organs of baby.Beyond they had taken blood samples from me and my husband for the following tests.
HIV test
Red cell serology(Anti body screening)
virolagy tests
Thalassema(To Find D.N.A defects)
Hb count etc
They hv tests for down syndrome in 5h month. But i didn't took it. Because Accuracy of the test is :
If u r above 3o yrs old it is abt 60%
If ur 35 yrs :70%
If ur below 30 yrs:40%
G.T test is taken here during 28th week. Hpoe this info will help u

Rama,

For my 20th wk appointment I only had a detailed ultrasound of the baby. The AFP test for me is taken in a previous appointment. Please do remember that Amnio test is not a must and is better to avoid if your doc didnt insist.

In this 20th wk u/s u can also find out ur baby's gender if u want. So good luck and enjoy the u/s.

Rama,

From what I know, vaginal ultrasound is more accurate to measure the length of the cervix. Its mostly done at the end of your 6th month. Gestational Diabetes test is also done at this same stage (24th wk). I am in my 24th wk now & my next appointment is on 19th. I can provide you with more details about these tests after that.

Dear Mansi,

Thanks for the info. Here they dont do AFP and amino tests as a routine test. Only if we insist, they do it. So i dont have any plans to go for it.

Can you please let me know whether by u/s the length of cervix can be checked?

When is Gestation Diabetes test taken?
