Sleeping:14 months baby - 2 naps in day OK?

Hi,
My son is 14 months old and still has 2 naps in a day (1.5-2 hours each). He wakes up 2-3 times in night and I have to breastfeed him to make him sleep. I doubt he wakes up in night because he has 2 naps in the day. Is it so? I am not able to avoid his morning nap. Otherwise he is very active and playful all the time he is awake. Are 2 naps ok for 14 months baby? Is this the reason he is not sleeping continously in the night?

TIA

My son is 16 months, and he has just 1 nap a day of about 45minutes or 1 hour, But he goes to bed by 7.30- 8 pm and at times he does sleep at a stretch but at times he does wake up at nite and ask for his dudu, I try to put him back to sleep without it at times but he cries and tells me\";please give me dudu\"; I have no other choice and give him as he does not use pacifier.........

Well!!Tia, Its the same problem with me. My 10 months old son also gets up for getting nursed in the middle of the nights and its really tough. Although I know the reason, I cannot do anything about it.
The reason is that the child needs the touch of comfort and is using your breasts as the pacifier in his sleep. The only way for him to go back to sleep without waking up is to initially let him cry when he gets up for milk and we as mothers must switch off for this session and then wait for him to go back to sleep until he puts himself to sleep. It would be difficult initially but then the child would get used to it and learns to not get up in the nights for comfort. Alas!! I have been trying to do the same but then have been postponing it every now and then. If there is any other way, kindly help us!!

How many hours does he sleep at night? You are right - it is possible that he is waking up at night because he has got enough sleep during the day. He could also be waking up at night just to get the comfort from you.

Are you at home with him? In that case can you take him out during one of his naps? Maybe for a walk or just window shopping (depends on where you are located).

Babies are all different. My son stopped his second nap around 14 months. But it does not mean that all will be like that. But 1.5-3 hours per nap does sound like a lot.

It will be hard for the first couple of days but try to take him out during the morning time after a good breakfast.

Good luck.

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
