Due Date Club February 2006:Update - Thanks Archie

Name: shilpi

I got an u/s done this Saturday and the baby seems to be doing ok, no chance of going into early labor or \";pre-term labor\";.
Baby seems to be a little underweight - almost 10 days weaker - the estimated wt at birth as of now is 2.45kgs (almost 5.5 pounds) - this the dr says could be because I am anaemic - my hb count yesterday was 10 - reduced further in the last 3 weeks - even though I have my iron tablets everyday and my diet is also very rich in iron. She has increased my iron tablets and also told me to have some medicines that would help in increasing the baby wt. Otherwise the development of the baby is fine -
She has also advised plenty of rest - I don't know how that would help in increasing the wt of the baby - she said if I can I should rest for 20 hrs a day -
Hey and tomorrow (19/12) is my wedding anniversary ! After all the bad news about baby's wt being low and hb count not getting any better - I have something nice to look forward to !
At this point I can only pray for a healthy baby !
Thanks, Shilpi

Shilpi,
the rest is good. it will avoid exertion.
Eat healthy as much as you could. Include fats and proteins and some carbohydrates.
I hope baby gets close to 6 pounds. Also remember the ultrasound is not an absolute weight calculator although it's pretty close to what exact weight would be.

This was suggested to my sister who was in the risk of having her baby early. Since they wanted to pump up the baby's weight, she was asked to eat high cal food like milkshakes, icecream, kheer, nuts in the few weeks before delivery. She did not have any problems of weight or diabetes.

My nephew was early as feared but had a very good weight for his gestational age. But please check with doc before you eat such food.
