In our house the problem is slightly different. We have a dog. In the beginning he used to sleep near the bed. Now, he gets up in the middle and jumps on the bed. For this reason our sleep gets disturbed. We can not sleep comfortable and whole night he keeps moving here and there. On the top of that, sometimes if he hears some weird noise of other roadside dogs barking as we can normally hear at night he starts barking loudly and disturbs everybody at night. We are really tried of this dog. I do not know how we should deal with this problem. At least children can be dealt with easily.
