Breastfeeding:gaining too much weight

hi my baby is 5 weeks old ,his doc said he is gaining too much weight about 2 oz a day , he is now 8 pounds 10 oz ( started from 6 pounds 3 oz ), i feed him every 2 hrs but doc said to make it 2.5 to 3 hrs , its getting so hard for me to make him wait , i give him pacifier and poor guy keeps sucking and he cries so much , dono wat to do
if anybody has same problem plz help

Congratulations!

About your question, I'm no doctor, but I feel that your baby knows better than his doctor how hungry he is. It does not seem right to keep him waiting while he's hungry. Are you breastfeeding him? If so, like the other poster said, he'll only get as much milk as he wants.

But, are you sure that he's crying because he is hungry? Have you tried holding him (maybe he wants cuddling), changing him (wet diaper?), making sure he's not hot or cold? If you tried everything and it looks like he really is hungry, go ahead and feed him to his heart's content.

i agree with u but whenevr we go to his doc , he makes feel guilty cause he is gaining waight rapidly . he said he cud go obese . and ya he cries because of hunger . just to make him wait we keep holding him so much so that he has stopped sleeping in his crib . so u think i shud feed him even after hour if he feels hungry ?

Dont Worry, give him as many feed as he wants. an exclusively breastfed baby rarely tend to get overweight. it makes sense to ignore docs comments on weight. try reading a book \";Dr R K Anands Guide\"; All ur concerns will vanish. Please dont starve ur baby and dont get in to this habit of pacifiers.
