Due Date Club February 2006:what precautions to take against chicken pox

Dear Archie

First of all a very Good Morning to you.

I am in the 30th week of my pregnancy and still attending my office sometimes. One person in my office has just recovered from Chicken Pox (he came after 10-12 days of contacting the disease) and started coming to office. Please advise me what precautions should i take while communicating with him. Mine is a desk job and though i do not have any regular work contact with him but still i am feeling bit tense.

bye

Pooja

Dear Pooja,
First of all what Ask said is true, you may be immune if you ever had this episode in childhood or prior to pregnancy. Why don't you give a call to your Dr. and check out your immunity status, she must know from first trimester blood work, provided you live in USA.

You are in terminal stage of pregnancy and less likely it will affect baby, I am sure this will make you feel OK.

There is nothing you can do to prevent chicken pox besides avoiding contact to person who is suffering from. Also as Ash said he is in convalescent phase and kind of harmless disease phase.

Archie

Thank you Archie and Ash for your reply.

Archie i am from Delhi (India). I have asked this question because this pregnancy means a lot to me. I know all the pregnancies are very precious to the expecting parents but this precious moment has come in our life after a long wait of about 7 years.

Once again Thank you and have a nice time.

Pooja

Subject:  have u had chicken pox earlier?

pooja,
in case u have had chicken pox earlier then i think u can be rest assured as you will have immunity against it (archie correct me if i am wrong)

secondly the contagious stage of chicken pox is in the earlier stages and when the scabs begin to fall off and in here as the person is coming after 10-12 days i dont think u need to bother now.

maybe archie/ someone else can also help in this regard.
