Due Date Club June 2007:Who's Archie???

Name: Shilpa

I was just going thru the expecting parents message board of the other months. I found out Archie to be very active and suggestive. She has been a boon and has been able to answer all the expecting moms very satisfactorily. Whos Archie??? Does anyone know??? Blessing in Disguise......

Shilpa,
I read your Cesarean reason and got a little confused on rush exerted. Cord can be seen during or before labor and one would have asked to have your NST each a day or keep track of movement, much wiser over Cesarean.

Nonetheless, if your OB is different and you think is smart, you trust in this OB then talk about VBAC. I suspect you said that your cesarean was because of expected macrosomia for baby and cord around the neck and has a bikini lower incision.

In both pregnancies of mine, I played a huge role as OB for myself though I think my very first OB (first pregnancy) and last OB (last pregnancy) were kind and did not have problem me choosing my options and they respected my readings of OB/GYN over 1.5 decades.
Yes, I am Microbiologist and have been reading OB/GYN from since I was teenager:-)

Shilpa,
did you mean your sil baby was larger than 9 pounds at the full term, after 36 weeks gestation, precisely at or after 38 weeks?
Also without knowing how long the cord was in that shape one can't say how it did impact on nerve function. Cord around the neck is very common, even if there is no cord around neck prior to labor some babies get into this situation while in labor. There are millions around the world born with cord around the neck and have been doing excellent. your SIL's case is special because cord was not only around the neck but entangled in hand as well, if that was seen during or around labor her Dr. might not have offered VBAC.

If your C-section was for above reason and you don't feel comfortable with VBAC don't need to go for it. But if you and your OB wants to see that as an option then have a sonogram around labor to see cord situation and decided to go through natural labor or a repeat C-section.

good luck

Archie
I could have talked abt VBAC, but i our family we had an history. My sister-in-law had insisted on VBAC. But her case also the baby was above average weight and there was a cord around the baby's neck. At the end the doctor tried to deliver the baby thru forcep delivery. The the sad part was tbe cord was round the baby's head and arm. Due to this, the nerve around the arm got damaged and she cannot use her left arm, it is partially paralysied. They did 2 surgeries to her arm after that, but not fully cured. Looking into this the first thought which came to my mind was, i did not want the baby to affect in anyway and would not mind a c-section.
I dont know whether i was right or not????

Hi Shilpa,

Archie, probably Archana is her name, has been a great contributer to all the message boards especially ttc (trying to conceive) ones and others too. She is I think a microbiologist by profession and seems to know a lot about pregnancy and other gynaecological problems.

As you said, she has been a great boon to us all. She has had her second son recently, you can read her birth story in Nov 2006 board.

God bless her.
