He simply convinced me not to worry about it since its going to be only in annual holidays. I made up my mind somehow, but felt really weird. I had so many doubts so again I went and asked my dad. He simply said to concentrate on my studies first since its going to be only aft the final exams.
I browsed sometime and came across this site.
Guys and girls who been to and tonsured in Thirumala plz clarify my doubts
Can we see many girls of my age shaving heads in Thirumala?
Can I wear usual Kurta top and Jean or I should go for salvar during tonsure?
What time there will be very less people in head shave area? I am really shy and don want anyone to see me getting tonsure:(
What suits good to cover girls bald head scarf or cap or another? I want to wear em immediately aft my HS, I should ask my dad to buy and keep one.

Swathi replied. Hi guys, we started to thirumala on 21st noon and reached in the night. I had my last head bath in the night and seen my hair well in the mirror, cos I am gonna lose em in the morning :( I din get sleep whole night cos i was so scared and shy.
We woke up early in the morning and reached tonsure hall by 6 30. My father bought 2 tickets and we went into the hall. My heart beat increased as the time neared. There was some crowd even it was early in the morning. I just checked out the hall, I couldn' t find any girl of my age tonsuring. Then I found few little girls and 1 in early twentys standing for tonsure, that gave me some courage. We reached a barber and my mom asked me to sit, I refused and asked my dad to go first. My dad gave blade and ticket to barber and sat down. He watered his hair fully and started from middle. In like 4 mins my dad was completely bald and then another 4 mins to shave beard and moustache. I couldn' t recognise my dad, it was the first time I saw him head shaved.
He then stood up and mom gave him towel to wipe off water and hairs on face.
Then my turn came, my mom asked me to sit. The barber asked mottai or cuts. My mom said mottai and handed the blade. I was completely nervous and my heart was beating like anything, just felt like crying and I controlled it thinking its all for good. The barber wet my hair completely and the water was dripping from my head over my face and dress. He split my hair into 2 and tied 2 knots. Again he slightly sprinkled some water and asked me to think of God. Then I could feel he started from the middle. I could see hair falling down and cool air touched my head. Just in a matter of time he shaved 1 side and put a big hair tuft aside. In the meantime he had a chat with nearby barber and my mom came to me and asked how did I feel. Before starting i was nervous but after started I seemed to enjoy it i said. She was happy hearing that. Then he continued and shaved the other side too in few mins. It was pretty fast. He then wiped the hair on my face and said its over. I got up and smiled at my mom :) She said I looked so beautiful. Then again i checked the hall I could c couple of other girls of my age standing, I thought i' d be off courage to them since i finished :( My mother wiped my face and head with towel. Then i asked for scarf to cover, but we forgot to bring it. Then i felt shy and got my mom' s dhupatta and covered my head fully.
Then we went to room. I rushed to c my face in mirror. OMG!!! who is this new girl. I couldn' t recognise myself. I looked very ugly without my hair :( My mom convince me and said its ok and it all for God.I took bath and wore new dress. My mom applied chandan on my head and my dad' s head. After applying chandan I thought I looked better. Then my mom asked me to come to temple without scarf. First I said no, then when I went out it wasn' t weird to go around bald there, no one cares. So just like Radha adviced i removed my scarf and my mom was very happy. I din wear any scarf or cap till I was there.
We went to temple and started home by evening and reached in the night. Like Radha said it was one of the beautiful experience in life. I will never forget it. Thanks to Radha, Preeti, Kumar and all who gave me courage in this forum.

It is quite common for young college girls to shave their head or go for a boycut. So do not fear that. Some ragging by friends will be there but that is only out of love. So you can bear it happily.
Tonsure at Tirupati is a very enjoyable experience. So do not fritter it away in an atmosphere of doubt, anxiety and shyness.
Hair anyway grows and just for it do not fill sadness in your parents. Respect their wishes and honour them happily. They will feel happy and you will get back hair at no cost. Whatever college you may go, in two years you will have enough hair to have a nice pony.
Now about your questions.
Yes, you can see many girls of your age getting headshaves if you go to Kalyanakatta in Apr-Jun period.
Now TTD has made saree or half saree or salvar compulsory for girls and ladies. Jeans will not be acceptable. You will look really nice in salvar or half saree when you are bald.
If you dont want anybody else to see you getting shaved, you have to get it done in your cottage. But that is not a proper way. This is question is opposite of your first question. If you do not go to Kalyanakatta how can you see other girls getting shaved at all?
Buy only a scarf, that too wear it only after coming down the hill. Wearing it on Tirumala reduces significantly the spiritual benefits you get out of tonsuring. Since many girls and women walk around bald without covering their heads, no one bothers. You do not have to worry. But never make the mistake of wearing a wig. It smacks of dishonesty.
You need about 2 inches for a short boycut which takes about 3 to 4 months.
3 cuts and tonsure are not the same. 3 cuts are for only those who are barred from tonsuring for other reasons such as being pregnant, no permission from parents, husband for tonsure, etc. Certainly not for an unmarried girl like you.
Since anyway you will be tonsuring in the holidays, do it happily and with a smile.

There is nothing to be scared about it. It is one of the best feelings a girl or woman can have. I am speaking from personal experience.
Shy: Well, first time everyone feels shy to have a different look. But when you see the happy faces of your parents and friends you lose that shyness. So do not worry. With shyness only but willingly and with happiness submit your head to the barber´ s razor after your exams. And again I wish you a happy gundu.

Hi thanks for the time and advice. No I just wanted to know many of my age girls will be shaving so that I will have some company :P rather than only me of my age having head shave in tonsure hall.
I have asked my dad also to give me company by shaving and he said ok.
I told him we would go the next day exam is over so that I would have atleast boy cut length hair before college.
Ya about ragging I am scared and shy how I am going to face my friends after my head shave(I din tell about it even to my best friend)
