Hair Care:profane rituals

Name: nikitha

my aunt' s son suffered from jaundice,he was in a very serious situation.my aunt took a vow to offer rituals to the village goddess if he gets well.fortunately he got well.it was time for rituals.he was very angry with the rituals since rituals involve head shave with sikha at back of his head and ear piercing.but some how aunt forced him to take part in rituals.
i promised aunt that i would pierce his ears.so one day we planned for ear piercing aunt made him to sit on her lap and he was shouting fiercely.but some how i did without much pain.then we inserted my long ear rings in his lobes.as he didnt have hair cut for a very long time his hair was long and aunt oiled it daily he looked feminine.so we thought of complete transformation until rituals.we bought a frock for him and had his hair a small pony tail.he was so cute we took few pics of him.
the next day we woke up early and went to temple.aunt thought it would be better to take bath after head shave so we went their with sonu in frock.we called a barber and said him to shave sonu' s head leaving sikha.he mistook him to a girl and said girls do not keep sikha.so we made him understand.we didnt bring any other clothes so the barber asked him to remove clothes as they will be spoiled during shave.so we removed clothes with great effort.there were many people around watching this made him far more reluctant.then he sat infront of barbar crosslegged and with hands covering his private part.then started the shave aunt asked barber to put a small sikha so that he wont feel shy,but women around said that it would cause anger to god so we asked barber to put a big sikha.he shaved the front part and sides very smoothly.and sonu was left only with back part.he shaved lower backpart and sides and gave him a big sikha.as he had long hair the sikha was too big.then i took him to bath, there i felt his smooth head shave sikha, though he was angry with me i enjoyed it.then we went back home.
few days later his hair was growing a bit but his sikha was growing far more faster.i am going to cut sikha to make his hair look even.

dear srinidhi
here in kerala in the traditional nair families, women only call the shots, hence i think there is an insistence on the boys being feminised,to make them soft and well mannered.

it' s true, rituals vary from place to place and vows made also vary, based on one' s believes & practices. so, what the boy went through is not surprising, i' ve heard of worse. =)

p.s: would like to hear of your experiences saiprasuna

hey aditya,
i am also from kerala and even i hail from a nair family.and so you also ended up becoming a girl for some time huh?,and come on being a girl is not so bad,and i think it gives boys a chance to experience the ' other side' and so its good.initially it may be tough but then it ll get routine.
and sai prasuna i am eagerly waitin, and i am sure the fun you had involves doin something to your hapless baby brother)

hi
i am from a conservative kerala family, when i was 9 yrs an astrologer told i was possessed by evil spirits and my gender had to be ' changed' .so for the next 3 years i lived life like a girl.i had to wear only female clothes,my ears and nose were pierced(i still have those holes) and so many rules and regulations.but it was not bad and at the end of 3 yrs i had gotten used to it.

as srinidhi said the rituals vary wildly!in my family the boys are completely feminised, for 2 to 3 years.this includes every detail from wearing earrings etc to sitting while urinating.so there is nothing surprising in nikitha ear piercing and headshaving her nephew.and saiprasuna, your brother only had his upanaynam done right?how did it go?

hii
congrats on completing the vow successfully,i am sure you you enjoyed performing the rituals.also these rituals vary from family to family, and the tonsure and ear piercing that was done on your nephew need not be restricted on upanayanam alone, take the case of my family, where even nose piercing is compulsory for males!also it is not good to cut the sikha.

dear nikitha
even in my family these vows are taken if a boy is sick, after he is cured, his head is shaved at tirupathi, for a girl a small part of her hair is removed.and in our family the keeping of the sikha and ear piercing is done during a boys upanayanam.but anyway its good that you have completed the vow and i am happy that your nephew was cured.and if you can please send me pics of your nephew wearing frock and earrings :)
