Sleeping:Phenergan to sleep

Hi We just visited India and my 9 month old son had sleeping problems there so the docter gave medicine called "Phenergan". Now when we came back to USA he has same sleeping problem. he will wake up around 12 and will not not sleep for 2 hours. I just want to know if I can give him "Phenergan" to make him sleep or not and how much should I give.

Also if anybody lives around Norwalk,CT and interested in making a playgroup, please write to me at

Thanks,
Preeti

I just looked up phenergan on the web. You may want to do this as well, as the drug is not for the use your Indian doctor prescribed. The side effects are not worth the few extra hours of sleep your child will get. Do as the other poster suggested and try different methods to get your child back to sleep once he awakens. He may just be hungry...is he getting enough to eat during the day????

Hi Preeti,

I gave my son Phenergan on a flight from Frankfurt to the US. He did well on it. But it was on one occasion. As far as I know it is used for short term purposes and meant for motion sickness during travel. In addition, it induces sleep. I have never heard it being used as a longterm sleep solution.

Can you shorten or avoid one of his daytime naps? Or have you tried rocking him back to sleep on a glider/rocking chair. At 9 months my son used to wake up for a sip of milk/water. After that he slept on my lap within a few minutes of rocking.

Doctors in the US would disagree with my approach. But at age 2 when my son has started sleeping by himself throughout the night, it was a small part of his life!

My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
