hi,
i am diabetic and am pregnant for the first time- i am an south indian residing in the US for the past 4 yrs and last year in april the doctors put me on Metformin(gulcophage) 1000mg to control my diabetes- and the medicine has really helped me very much- after i got pregnant the doctor referred me to perinatologist and that doctor will be checking the baby and me to see if everything is alright- my sugar levels are under control and i maintain good diet- now he gave me an option like i can continue with the tablets throughout the pregnancy or i can opt for insulin- he said that during pregnancy the medicine would not affect my baby- but my doubt is what after delivery- like if i breast feed will the medicine have any effect on the baby?- i know that i still have time to think about this coz i'm in my 8th week- but u know i'm really worried for my baby's health-
please help-

Dear pearl,
I suggest the best remedy to control is diet. Eat 1 chappati with 1 'bitter guuard' (full Pahakaai with skin)as breakfast, 2 chappatis with the same veg as lunch besides other vegtables (avoid carrot, beetroot etc) and eat 1 apple (avoid banana, grapes, chickoo, pineapple and oranges) in the evening, and in the night 2 chappatis with the same veg (instead of potato include raddish veg. With no medication, your sugar will be under control in 5 days time period. All the very best.
