hi, offer him more vegies and fruits,,go to gerber dot com for great starting ideas..
once you are done with all vegies and fruits,i will let you know the recipes..
you can give as of now, sweet potato halwa,,boil the sp,,put the ghee, nd add the boiled sp, add a lite dash of cardamom, and mash it until smooth..
since your baby has shown signs of discomfort for lumpier food, reduce the the size of lump..bread ? why u give that,,give the lumps of boiled vegies,,
addmore vegies, fruits to his diet,,your baby is 7months now,,start new vegies and fruits weekly or every 3-4 days,if your baby is responsive to allergy faster..
specific book name, i bought the baby first sign book, dont rem the author..go to amazon dot com, read the reviews and buy wats best for your baby...its different styles acc to how your baby is able to express or how to teach ! c wat fits you and get the name of book and ask for it in your local books store or buy from amazon !

good luck

i understand the concerns. but since every baby grows differently you cannot compare them. its not that as a mother, you can stop doing it, but practically speaking also its not advisable. by doing so, you are actually questioning yourself and your baby about the wellbeing of the health & her growth. and that will not only make you do less efforts towards your baby but also you will keep feeling miserable whenever you see other babies excelling in their own capacities.after everything you will end up just feeling bad about yourself that all...do you want to do that !
no right,,then,,forget about what others babies are doing, concentrate on whats your baby doing,,if your dr is happy, your baby is playful, everything is goin good then why botherr.
sorry if i hurt you in any of my words. but being mom, you will keep facing it thru out the life whnever you will see any baby,,even though if he is not good still that feeling will never leave you..
again, weight has nothing to do with acheiving milestones.also, drinking with sippy cup, chewing food has nothing to do with developing faster.its all babies preferences..some babies who walk, run, sometimes dont know how to chew foods ! they drink soupy foods at 1 year,,guess how it feels to hear from a mother of 1 year old that my baby run, has all his teeth but they arent yet able to eat solids! i have seen those too ! and i have seen on their faces how they have felt. it feels bad.

your baby is doing the right thing that is just RIGHT FOR HER to do at this point of time.

about reading, babies dont recognise letters, words until 2 years of age..but they do understand signs, pictures and emotions or expressions..teach that..get some nice big picture books, teach her by repeating the same words, everytime his eyes fall on them,,they will try to speak them !
and let me tell you, its not always that body wins ! mind is more powerful than body is,,and you cannot control functions or rather developments of body,,but you can always develop a mind to the level you want..its all upto you..
at 7 months,3 times meals looks good to me.

try maintaining a good sleeping, eating and playtime schedule for your baby...try playing with her if you think by sleeping she is goin to miss her feeds,,its ok play with her, she is baby and mother knows how to divert her mind ! she cant win you..
if still she is not a baby who sticks to schedule, whenever she sleep, try to feed her regular feeds before her sleep,,, and whenver she misses her feeds, i guess she must be really hungry after she wakesup,,give meals in that way,,,keep her meals ready, as soon as she finishes one meal, this way you will always be ready on the call whenever she is hungry.at 7months, you can give her rice and dal,,its good to give, introduce her variety of foods, for introducing avoid toor dal,its heavy and very gassy.. start with whole moong water, then moongdal water and then toor dal..once you have given all dals, give her mixed dal poridge.mix all dal, and add rice, some vegies and whistle it in cooker with water the way you make rice,,great meal good to go.slowly increase the consistency of more dal than just dal water or rice in porridge....but not much or thick that baby cant drink or eat with rice or gets too heavy.
again i want to tell you,,never make a mistake of comparing your baby. always remember, all babies are unique and are gods gift.
its upto you to understand their potentials and bring them up ! for some mothers its a pride to show their babies skill physically,,make up your mind to accept it and welcome it..they will stop doing it,once they see you are welcoming it and i would say love your baby multiplied by 100 when you see such friends,,see the responses..
sorry if i wrote a bit more on comparing but from your message i felt that you had that feeling bothering in your mind,,just tried to remove it !

so good luck and you take care
Hetal

how do i encourage my daughter to drink using the sippy cup now -- give her fav juices in sippy cup ! and other tips are on this link --
http(:)//www(.)indiaparenting(.)com/boards/showmessage(.)cgi?messageid=1161&table_name=dis_sleeping

right now im giving her gerber stage 2 vegies , she dnt like green vegies ( but im still trying hard to make her eat that).. and how do i make her to chew the food ... Yesterday i gave her rice but she doing like as if she is choking ( cud u pls tell me what are the vegies that i can introduce to her now ( i want to cook at home ) .?
answer to this-- if you want to graduate your food, graduate him to the level he accpts, try introducing lumpier foods than foods like overboiled rice for which she has to search for seeds in her mouth to chew ! lumpier in the sense a overboiled long piece of potato, a roti piece soaked in dal(if youhave introduced) or any fruit like banana that doesnt require cooking,,,see how he responds to it.once a while choking is ok,babies need to learn, they take time to learn,,,,,give him a small eatable piece of overcooked vege and see how he eats..when you think he is giving a big bite, remove the excess slowly from his mouth and let the rest be in his mouth,,let him chew..chew before him, eating the same vegie,,babies learn from their moms ! best example...chew and say yum yumm,,even though they dont understand, babies at 7 months mimic their moms or people around ! thats how they learn..one day give one lump in the food that you give, other day once you see he is fine,,give 2 lumps and onwards...dont hurryup,,,have patience,,it takes time for them to learn,,its all eventual and not like a week or so.keep practising.

and what are the food i can give her i.e. finger foods),,
answer,,he is ready for all homemade foods,,like mixed dal and rice with some vegies, fruits with mix dal and rice,,nd soups...also i have known south indian friends of mine whose babies have been ok with idlis and dosas..so try that,,just rem the ratio of urad dal to be just for name sake !
and it all dpends on what all you have introduced so far,,let meknow, i will frame some recipes for you...

how shud i teach her sign language and can i teach her alphabets at this age ?
answer - lts a very long answer,,let me make my life easy by just letting you know couple sites,,they will tell you in detail then i could write all.
mybabycantalk dot com
also there is signingbaby dot com for all great pictures on sign langauge,,
here is the direct link -
http(:)//signingbaby(.)com/main/?pp_album=main&pp_cat=signing-baby-dictionary

howeverr these are general signs by them,,you can introduce your own styles acc to what your baby likees ! my daughter tells me that she wants to drink water by her thumb up and taking it to mouth, and tells that she wants milk by dhoooo...
so it depends,,know your baby and train him accordingly,,for each sign you teach, remember to speak the same word again and again,,keep doing it ! next time he will try to speak it !! or just blabber it !
about alphabets, get the big picture book with alphabets, all in big big colourful letters,,they like it that way..my baby recognises a,d,b,t,cat but not c,,,she likes picture of cat !!,,
and make that sound when you speak that word,,c her response after couple months ! she will do that or try to say that, while pointing it to that alphabets !! so keep it goin..dont expect total results by night or even a month ! its too early for them,,,starting time for all these is 9months best !

personally i got the book on baby sign language from amazon !
so good luck !
