Waiting to try:5 years too long? Does my weight matter?
2002-01-08
Name: reshma

Hello there.. I am 22 yrs old now & my husband is 26. We got married when we were 20 & 24 resp. We r planning to try for a baby once we celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. Is 5 years too long to wait for a baby? Will it be a problem to get pregnant after 5 years of marriage? Or do I face any problem during pregnancy?
We r planning to try for a baby boy because we r four sisters and all my sisters have girls. Having a cute little boy would be a blessing to our family. We r planning to use the methods mentioned in this site in order to conceive a boy. Have anyone tried these methods? Did they really work?
I am 5'1 tall and weigh 35kgs. I know I am underweight and I tried to put up a couple of kgs but I never picked up a single kg. My body constitution is like that. Does my weight really matter? Did anybody of my weight have babies? R the babies healthy? Did they face any problems as they r growing up? What precautions should I take to have healthy baby?
Your valuable suggestions r requested. Please do respond to this message.
Thank U very much

Hi reshma
I'm also an underweight woman who is afraid of getting pregnant. I have submitted a question in \";relations - women's issue\"; and I got a couple replies. If you are interested you can go through them. I think this will help you too as we both are sailing in the same ship. Good luck

regards
anu

Dear Reshma,
Its a girl and a boy, 13months old now. They were born at 38 weeks of gestation. Unfortunately it was a cesarean because there wasn't enough room for them to trun their heads down. But we are happy with their arrival. They changed our entire world.

Dear Reshma
I was 40kgs when I got pregnant with twins. I was just terrified because of my weight. But I picked up 16 kgs during those 9 nervous months. The kids are 1 year old now. They are healthy & beautiful like any other. So weight is not at all a big deal honey!

hello reshma
wait till 25 to get pregnant. this will not create a problem because both of you are young.
the methods mentioned in this site are not fool proof methods. but they are based on some theories. they may work for some people and for some they may not.
coming to your weight, underweight women can have healthy babies. weight will not play a role in getting pregnant if your periods are regular and your husband has a good sperm count. but raising children needs lot of energy. so its good if you can pick up some weight.
gainig weight is not easy i know, but at the same time it is not impossible. eat more calories of food daily. walk for atleast 1 hour in the morning. it increases your appitite. take fresh fruit juices and vegetable salads. they are really good for health. if all of your family members are also slim, your chances of picking up weight are a bit less. otherwise you will pick up weight with age.
so dont worry about your weight my dear. its not a problem at all. you can have a healthy baby.

Hi reshma
I think you still have time. You are only 22. I think your first priority now is to gain some weights. Dont get frustrated...exercise well and eat healthy food. Take lots of fruits and water. Also take folic acid vitamin tablets(.4mg)...one tablet a day.

Atleast make it 40-45 range...then plan it. Since you are 5'1\";, 40-45 is a good weight I suppose.

Hello Reshma,
You are very young to worry about getting pregnant right now...I don't think it matters if you wait. If you are so worried you should ask your husband to use protection instead of taking pills. We waited for 4 years and I was 26 when I got married. We are having our first one in couple of weeks when I am 30. There is no sure 100% method to conceive a boy but you should pray for healthy baby. There is some chinese calander many people beleive that works with date of conceiving with age of women. There is also a book on how to have a boy so you can try to read that. I don't think womens height or weight matters in conceiving a child. Good luck and best wishes.
