hi indu. its not the oil that matters, its the touch that actually matters ! touch stimulates the baby senses and makes them relax. you can do that with any thing that allows your skin to avoid friction when in contact with baby skin! and the simplest of all is oil..and since baby skin are very sensitive, appplying a good quality oil is always a must. any edible oil can applied, the reason being you know whats in therre ! and even if enters baby body thru skin (which happens all the time until baby skin matures), its safe for baby to handle it !
however, traditionally, in india, we do it with sesame oil or a good brand of almond oil..in western countries, olive oil is considered best !
applying hair in baby head is not goin to give him ne benefits except avoid dryness. so apply lite as possible,.,as more grease attracts more dirt, resulting in hard time during hairwash,,which for babies we want to avoid...any good brand that you know whats in there, is good for babies ! esp edible oil like vegetable oil, almond oil, sesame oil,or groundnut oil, olive oil..all these are used by different cultures in diff parts of world,,,use whatever your baby skin is comfortable to !
take care and Good luck...
Regards
