Name: Viji

Hi,

I am Viji ... Mom of Niharika - 5 yrs old ... and Harini and Krithika - 4 months old...

Out of the twins .. Krithika is fine but Harini developed colic & gas problem and to top it all reflux problem when they were 2 months old ...

After that she has lost her appetite completely and every feed is a force feed with the paladai ( diya shaped thing to feed milk) Now i have tried raagi and cerelac ... which also she does not like ...

Now my question is that she has given up the bottle completely ... has anyone got any experience like that ... and any tips to help me to get her restart the bottle..

Also does anyone have experience and tell me by when does reflux problem in kids get sorted out and how can we help it get better .... bcos i am a little hassled when she throws up after feeds ...

Hi Viji,
Please do not worry, even my son started having acid reflux when he was 2 months old. He used to vomit everything he drank atleast 2-3 times a day. Then my friend suggested that it could be due to acid reflux. I spoke to my son' s pediatrician and she suggested \" Zantac\" . It helped a lot. I am sure even in India ur doctor might help in prescribing a similar medicine, but do not give ur baby any medicine unless her doc asks u to do so.
Also, once the baby is fed, try to make her burp, by making her sit on ur lap or put her on ur shoulder, this will help her to burp better and whatever she feeds will go straight into her tummy. This helped my son a lot. My son takes around 3 ounces (90 ml) of milk, so I always help him to burp after he is half way through his feeding and I feed him the rest of the milk. So, try that. Generally when there is acid reflux, baby' s tend to avoid drinking milk as they feel pain in their throat while swallowing milk and so they totally avoid taking milk. So, be patient in feeding her and dont ever force-feed her, this will makes things worse. But i would suggest u to talk to ur d0c about it.
One more thing, try making ur baby sleep in an inclined position, this helps a lot too, put a small pillow (the pillow should not be big/it should be very thin)or some thin blankets under her head.
I hope my suggestions would be of some hlp to u. Take care and have fun with ur kids.
Good luck
Anu
