Hi
I have similar opinion about inductions.I too have seen instances where induction has lead to long labors ending in C-secs.Recently i also read an article where they said in MOST cases induction leads to long and more painful labor and also leads to c-sec.Well, it may not happen in every case(i guess depends on baby's position and how much u have been dilated etc.- am really not sure on this ,each labour is different) and am also of the opinion that in case medical condition requires induction then one has no choice but to go for it.Discussing with doc on your options is the best way to decide.
Regarding amniotic fluid level, my doc told me that it has to be 10.My count was low last week but improved during the next scan.So i escaped the chance of induction. My doc told me they normally induce if fluid count goes below 7 or 6.

I do not know too much first-hand about inductions, since I'm pregnant for the first time. But I've known three people in the last month get induced before they were ready, resulting in long labors ending in c-sections. This has biased me very much against inducing for anything other than a pressing medical reason. Sounds like Dipti had good luck with her induction, but I think it doesn't work so well for everybody.

I believe most doctors let the women go for atleast a week after their due dates. (The due dates can be off by a week or two anyway). In the USA, two weeks after the due date, I think most doctors would like to do induce labor at that point.

I believe doctors do a non-stress test on your baby if it's past the due date, just to make sure that the baby is doing okay. Obviously, this would be something to talk over with your doctor. If you have a choice, I hope that you will not take the induction route.

Experienced moms, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Suzie, welcome. I was induced with my first child because in my 39th week the doctor thought that the baby was gaining too much weight and it would create problems for me to deliver naturally. It consists of 2 steps - one giving you medication to thin out your crevix (if it has not already) and then inducing labor by giving you pitocin or something similar. The doctor's only suggest to do so when they see that the baby is in position. Induction only means artificially starting labor. The rest of the process is completely natural. I was ready to get induced with my second one also (since with induction you can predict when the labor pains are coming), but I delivered before my induction day. I would completely vote in favor of it and there is no complications with it.I was told that at this stage generally 10 kicks in a 1 to 1 1/2 hr period is what the baby kicks should be. But remember, the baby is bigger and has lesser space, so the number of kicks might be fewer.
Best of luck.
