Hi
I know Papaya is strict NO NO during pregnancy. I want to know what are other things to stay away from during pregnancy other than caffeine. I had two miscarriages in the past so want to make sure what to eat or not to eat during pregnancy.
Thank you for your help.

SAI replied. My dr just asked me to avoid papaya, but as per our traditional beleives i avoided anything garam (by nature) like dry coconut, walnut for 8 months , wen 9th month started we take such things(panjiri). U shud take lot of veggies, fruits , juices , also take lil saunf , they say it makes the baby fairer. Gud Luck, enjoy the period n don worry much, also i hope u r aware dont do work in squatting position n dont lift heavy wts but be very active.
Pooja replied. Thanks Mel,Shalini & Saba
Yes, pregnant women better stay away from Papaya. I have heard about it from various sources that it leads to miscarriage.
Anyway, thanks for your inputs about Pineapple, &uncooked eggs & especially sprouts I din' t know that at all. mel, are you talking about Moong Bean dal sprouts? I eat green sabut moong dal sprouts alot but thankfully I din' t eat it since this pregnancy? I better stay away if its the same you are talking about?
Also, what about jeera(cumin seeds)? I read on some american websides herbs to avoid during pregnancy- cumin seeds was one of them. I have stopped putting jeera in my dals & vegetables.
Sesame seeds also should NOT be eaten right?
Pl. everyone add to the list whatever you know. I want to know for sure. I have had 2 miscarriages. everything in my blood work is normal. So I fear is it something I ate then? I ate Isabgol during 1st pregnancy and blame it for the 1st miscarraige. Now I am pregnant again so want to be very careful.
Thank You all for your inputs

Mel replied. Actually, it' s green papaya, but I preferred to avoid any and all papayas. You shouldn' t eat raw / half cooked EGGS. It contains salmonella and is dangerous for baby.
Oily FISH is very good for baby' s brain, but not more than 1 small piece a week or it could lead to mercury poisoning.
Another thing is SPROUTS... (matki). It contains a bacteria that is not safe for baby. So, even though it is high in protein, it' s not safe for baby.
A basic rule is make sure that everything you eat is well-cooked.
Shalini replied. Dear Puja ,
Never Ever eat papaya and pine Apple in you entire your nine months. Both of these are harmful for Baby.
Take fruits daily Like Orange, Apple, Grapes, Watermelon, Strawberry etc. and take one coconut water daily if will more effective for your loving baby.
Saba replied. Hi Pooja,
Preganancy is a time to enjoy yourself completely, dont worry too much abt the food as it just abt adds to stress. A full ripe papaya is a good source of potassium and there is no harm in having it, but a raw papaya is known to cause contractions hence should be avoided. Eat healthy, you need around 400 calories extra everyday.things which have empty carories like maida, chips, processed foods like sauces etc need to be avoided as they are not good sources of nutrition.Keep your iron and calcium foods on high priority. Best of luck.

honey eat whatever u like. u guys r educated and should know better.
i ate everything in my pregnancy. i don' t know who is the doctor that tells u to avoid papaya and pineapple.
i live on USA and my doctor told me eat anything. don' t worry too much.
by the way salmonella can only be found in very rare eggs and only if it has pass the expiry date. i don' t think i india the eggs are ever stammped or checked.
EAT NUTS SPECIALLY, IT IS GOOD FOR U AND FOR THE BABY. BABY WON' T HAVE ANY NUT ALLERGIE IN THE FUTURE. PLS STOP D AVOIDING THE GOOD FOOD. ALL THE FRUITS AND VEGTALBLE CONTAIN VITAMINS AND MINERALS AND THAT IS WHAT U NEED IN PREGNANCY.
