We adopted a 14 month old baby boy a few weeks ago. We already have a biological daughter who's 5 years old. I'm from Mumbai and as we found out, adopting in Mumbai is relatively headache free. I'd would be happy to help if anyone has any queries.
Also if there are any adoptive parents out there, please write to me. I'm longing to chat with someone who ridin' the waves in the same boat.
Regards, Hema

Vaishali replied. Hi Hema, M not too sure, if you still login into your account, however, if you do read this, can you please guide me to some good adoption agencies in Mumbai, as I live in Goa and adoption laws are very difficult here plus very few adoption agencies to choose from. And I want to go through a reference anyways. Thanx in advance.
Kavita replied. Dear Hema,
First of all, many many hearty congratulations to you and your husband on receiving an adopted baby!
Also, kudos to both of you on such a courageous decision and step carried out. :)
I understand your need to contact other adoptive parents. One thing that can help you reach out, other than this forum is a website and organisation called NAAF (National Association of Adoptive Families).
Do visit their website naaf-india dot org and contact them thereafter.
You are lucky since it is a Mumbai-based NGO.
All of you adoptive parents can contact it. It does not help to adopt, rather spreads awareness and connects with all aoptive parents.
I am looking to adopt, hopefully (if my husband comes around to agreeing about it :( that is).
Once again, congrats, and enjoy the new bundle of joy in your lives! :)
warm wishes and regards

I indeed need your help in this. We tried couple of agencies in Bangalore as I'm of resident of this place but the response from them is not good. They were very rude to us and lot of legal process and they said it would take nearly an year time.
Please help me with a good hassle free agency where with minimum legal work and can get a good either sex healthy, fair baby > 6 month old from a good family background. I woud be very greatful to you.

Which agency did you go through? Do you reside in India or in U.S.?
Hema replied. Hi Janiki and SG,
The thing is there is no uniform Adoption Law in our country only an Act. So it is entirely upto the presiding judges to interpret the Act in the way they chose. That is why it is crucial you chose the right adoption agency. Go only to highly recommended ones. The ones that are compassionate, above board, know the legalities to a pat and that have done is so many times that the judges trust them imlpicitly. We went to a couple of agencies before we found the right one. From the first meeting to the court orders it took us approx. 3 months. The fewer your specifications about the baby then sooner its likely to be.While because we are Indian residents we get to be Legal parents of our son, NRIs can adopt as legal guardians. Also if you already have a biological child, you only adopt a baby of the opposite sex.
We started priming our daughter about a year before we brought our son home. Indian mythology is full of adotion stories- Krishna being prime example. Also Tarzan, Ice Age are good stories to introduce the subject. We have been constantly reinforcing to her that there are many ways to build a family. That God gave us one 'stomach' baby and one we have to bring home from a big house where babies without mothers and fathers are waiting for us. So far its been Ok. Having a sibling has made it easy for our son to integrate into our family. He acts like his Didi is God.As they grow older they questions will probably start taking different forms- Go pl. grant us the wisdom to handle it. If you want the nitty -gritties of it- write to me at
