Sorry for the long silence from me. I became heavily preoccupied with work, the new home and my new way of life. After a highly enjoyable and ' bald' honeymoon in early March, I have settled down to my new style of life and thoroughly enjoying it - early wakeup, yoga, brisk walk, individual prayer in mornings, family prayer in the evenings, dinner together, visit to the adopted poor families once a while, hard and concentrated work at work place, stylish dress with ultra short hair, ' wet' parties once in a while, chauffeur driven car, etc.
My mom and Pranati enjoyed their ' gundu' heads in March very much. Both had about mid back hair before that. Though Pranati was ragged a bit on the first day in the bank, almost everyone agreed she looked very good with her round bald head. So she discarded her scarf and moved about bald. Mom never wore one in the first place. As per mom' s wish both had their repeat Tirumala ' gundu' (each had a growth of about an inch) on April 9th - this time in Kalyanakatta.
On April 10th I had my first ' Sowmya' military cut - a nice experience in the parlour. The sides and back hair was clipped to the skin to about two inches above the ear with no perceptible dip at the back and the top about quarter inch long. Though it looked more like a marine' s cut, I enjoyed it, giggling at my own appearance.
Mom has decided - to dad' s exquisite happiness - to keep her hair a short boycut with occasional tonsures. She says short hair is quite convenient and sensuous. To my surprise, Deepa has succeeded in pressurising Pranati also to be a shorty for a while. Fortunately mom and Pranati' s hairs, like mine, grow fast. So, last Sunday (22nd May) I took both of them to the parlour along with Deepa. Mom' s one and half inch growth was trimmed into a nice boyish cut with the sides and back clippered to about quarter inch long hair. The length on top was not reduced much. She is very happy about the cut. However Deepa, Pranati and myself got ' Deepa' type of cuts - clipped bald on back and sides to about an inch above the ear with a dip in the cut line at the back and the top hair about one and quarter inch, neatly trimmed to a boyish style. All of us looked exquisite. Pranati also felt happy about her ' school-boy' cut as she called it. She will have a monthly cut like that for about three months after which she will grow it long again.
Next month end I will have a similar cut before moving into my mom' s house for Ashadh. Early August, we will have our family tonsure at Tirumala - mil, fil, Deepa, Vishy and myself. I will give an update after that.

Regarding the height of \" machined surface\" on the sides, myself and Ravi leave it to the barbers judgements. Sometimes it will be high and some times just above the earline. Barber says he would like to produce different variety through varying the height to which he machines at the sides. This aspect I enjoy a lot so do Ravi.

My machined surface height is medium. Very close machinning near the neckline and gradually tapering and ending up at the top with sufficient hairs to comfortalby comb the crop. Even Ravi' s is the same, but his length is little more. I enjoy my machine cuts and honestly speaking never measures the \" machined surface\" with a measuring tape.

Yes myself and Ravi are having machine cuts with manual clippers.My barber nicely produces the machined surface which gradually and uniformly end in top with sufficient hairs to comb my crop. Ravi during summer months/exam times loves to have \" summer machine cuts\" wherein he will not have chance to comb his crop. My and Ravi' s saloon has door but the barber uses manual clippers.

Secondly, I do not agree your cousins are \" poor\" why? How many of them will be so lucky to have a relative like Hema who appreciate to go for machine cuts? I am sure your cousins will certainly be happy with you for your encouragements.

No so far I have not tonsured my head nor my brother, Ravi. But, Ravi regularly has his machine cuts once in a month and myself earlier once in three months, but since past eight months, once in two months. I want to continue in my II PUC which I just entered.
However, Ravi has his regular \" summer machine cuts\" during months of March, April and May. He has such cuts just before his exams. In fact, like you I also appreciate short machine cuts and has been really inspired by Ravi. Ravi has very less facilal hairs and a small moustache. He ensures that he is neatly shaved during the machine cuts. I admire his consistency. Does your cousins get neatly shaved during the machine cut? I am convinced that for a better impact, a machine cuted boy should have a smooth face.

Yes since past three machine cuts, I am having with my brother Ravi.We visit the the saloon early around 6.30 am. The saloon is about 2 kms from my house. We go on our bicycles. Both of our machine cuts is done with manual clippers and I enjoy the kit-kit sound. The barber scissors me much more perfectly for 30 minutes. Machine will run on sides and back.The cut is exactly like my brothers. But, I wil have more hair to comb.The barber applies some dettol like smelling liquid and razored me around my ears and the neck line. Usually the boys who come to the saloon so early give me a look of appreciation. My classmates enquire about my cut and my feelings. My parents and my uncle would be very happy with the cut. in the college often my maths and physics teachers (I am studying I PUC) pat my back and feel my machined area.

I & my wife, deciding to go for tonsure preferable to Tirumala, but my wife is undecided about the look and her figure after bald in the public, She works for MTNL, Mumbai, where she fears that her collegues may tease her. I am keeping constant gundu, doing at home only while having a bath twice in a week. Once in three months, when I visit to my weekend home at Nasik, I get it done from the barber stationed at the banks of Godavari River, totally smoothened by the straight razor. My wife enjoys my gundu. Kindly write back after your tonsure, which you are planning with your mil,fil, deepa, vishy.
As of today, my wife is sporting the boy cut, having the edge above he ear and very short hair on top about 2 inches.
We might go to tirupati during this weekend where, my wife may go for gundu (tonsure), since my son is studying at VIT, Vellore.

Hema replied. I' m 19. Yes, i have been tonsured when I was in sslc and once before that. I also accompany my young cousins to the saloon and get them a ' summer cut' :-) I usually ask the barber to cut it really close and use ' machine' on the sides and back. I have shoulder length hair now

I will take my hand from the cape, feel the machined surface at the back and sides and only if I feel that it´ s fully clippered I will pay him... I never thought girls like such haircuts - the summer is over now but I am due for a haircut now - am just thinking if I should get or not..

The saloon to which i take my cousin has a door unfortunately and they use manual clippers only when there is a power cuts.
ANyway manual clippers at work are more exciting to watch than electric clippers. The very sound gets me going ! :-) And the result is also better. Since it is not possible to control the length of hair with manual clippers, the barber usually ends up making the sides and back almost bald, which is the most attractive feature !
Just love getting a summer cut with manual clippers. Wish i were a boy so that i could do this frequently without people asking uncomfortable questions or getting strange looks.
I can only fantasize now :-(

what Hema has mentioned is a machine cut where the back and sides are fully clippered i.e. totally bald - I am sure Ravi´ s summer cut is not that close - right ? and ofcourse you will not be getting such a cut. Nowadays in men´ s saloon they don´ t use manual clippers but only electric - does ravi goes to some old saloon ?

Machine cuts are really exciting. I like to stand by and watch the barber give a really close ´ military cut´ to my cousins. Once done, I usually ask the barber to make it even closer. Eventually my poor cousin will be almost bald :-)Except for a few millimeters of hair at the front, the barber would have removed everything else with his clipper. Really fun to watch :-)
