Health Concerns:Cervical length problem- pls help

Dear friends,

Iam into my 21st week of pregnancy. Last day we had a scan and the fetal growth and movements are all fine. But the problem was that the cervical length has reduced from 3.5 cm to 3.1 cm. I had an abortion (missed abortion at 8 weeks) last year. Doctor said to repeat the scan next week and if the length reduces I have to put a cervical 'stitch'. This will be done after admitting is hospital and with anaesthesia.

I am very much worried and tensed. Can anyone tell me some details abt this. Is it necessary? I also hear that it is risky since you may get bleeding and all if you put stitch. Did anyone of you had any such proble. Pls reply at the earliest.

What is the minimum cervical length at 21 weeks?

Pls reply

Jincy

Hi,
Dear stop worrying so much.Usually they would advise stitches if the cervical length keeps dropping & goes below 2cms but having stitches is nothing to worry about.Probably if the next ultrasound shows that the cervical length is still dropping they would advise you complete bed rest but for stitches the cut off pt i believe is 1.6-2 cms.One of my cousins had it & she delivered the baby safely with out any complications at all.Only thing she had to take complete bed rest after the stitches.
So the thing is u have to relax totally cause stress is really bad at this point & may worsen things. So try thinking abt all the good things & stay calm & try to enjoy all the pampering u will be getting.
Good luck.Keep us posted.
bye
Anu
