Waiting to try:*Large Fibroid* Need Advice

Hello Friends,

Me and my wife have been thinking of having a baby. We discoverd that she has a relatively large intramural uterine fibrod (11cmsX11.5cms).

The doctor we are consulting is of the opinon to remove the fibroid by operation. However, the chances of my wife loosing the uterus are high - given the size of the fibroid. The doctor will be able to tell definitely, whether she will be able to save the uterus or not, only, when she starts the operation.

We are looking for some advice from couples who have been in this situation or know of couples who have been in this situation.

We do not want to make any hasty decisions and repent later.

The doctor also states, it is risky to try and get pregnant as the pregnancy will get complicated (if at all we conceive).

ANy doctors in the US / India we can consult, who have hands on experience with these kind of cases?

Any advise will be highly appreciated ... we dont know - whom to approach.

Thanks...

Subject:  Fibroid Treatment

Last year we had posted our case & wanted help if someone know doctor who specializes in treating fibroids. Finally we an answer - we got a highly qualified doctor and hospital which specializes in this field

Hospital : Brigham and Womens Hospital
Location : Boston, Ma
Name of Doctor : Dr Serene S Srouji
Phone No : 617-732-5500
Address: 75 Francis Street, Boston, Ma 02115

This was the protocol she used in my case :

1. She put me on Lupron Injection for 5 months so the estrogen levels drop and while performing the surgery the blood loss is limited.
2. She did temporary embolization (Gelfoam) which also helps in limiting the blood loss while doing the surgery.
3. Finally Doctor performed a Robotic Myomectomy (Da Vinci procedure) and removed the fibroid without hurting uterus.

She was able to remove the entire 13cm fibroid without hurting the uterus and I am doing excellent after the surgery.
I had no pain at all while recovering from the surgery.

It was more than a miracle for me. People who are in the same situation I was, my advise is please do enough research on the internet before going for any surgery. It helps alot if you know what the doctor is going to do and what will be outcome of it.

So people who need to treat their fibroid I would highly recommend to consult this doctor. She was so good that we don' t have words to thank her. Very professional, gentle and so thorough with her subject. She and her whole team rocks! She is like an angel to us.

Hope this information help. Please post your experiences it helps alot.

Hope you have found someone of your coice .
there is an injection which can be taken for a couple of months which decreases the size of the fibroid and then they can attempt to remove the fibroid which may reduce the complication during the surgery . please ask your doctor for further advice or write back to me for further help.
